Speedtronic issue "Drive to workshop" (resolved?)

after about 5 miles of driving, my '06 C55 speetronic (cruise) will malfunction and give the message in the title. No other lights or issues. I was going to swap wheel speed sensors and check the brake light switch. Once the car is restarted it works fine for approximately 5-10 miles then malfunctions again. Anyone with any information? TIA

possible resolution

borrowed a bi-directional Autel scanner to check for faults in the BCM and there was one for the cruise control switch. I have replaced it and so far so good. I didn't get a chance to drive it a long distance however everything functions and the fault has not returned. Here are a few pics for reference:

My 2 cents. Gas pedal position sensor could be issue. If it is bad, it will cause issues after a few miles. Car resets and behaves normally after engine off. Then issue repeats.

thanks for that input... I followed the bread crumbs based on what the scan tool said was an actual fault. certainly that is great input and I will keep it in mind if the situation continues.

I take back my 2 cents, lol. Glad you resolved issue. Few miles, failure, reset on shutoff behavior seems to be common theme for Merc electronic components. I wonder if my Foxwell scanner would have found that.

so far no errors after a week. The cruise control stalk/switch assembly was the faulty part and the MB part number on the bag above. The disassembly of the wheel and airbag was quite easy. Check youtube for W203 videos for reference.
