I think you should ask this on the SLK55 forum.....but anyways, I guess we can help you out.
1. Yes, but the car wont do anything.
2. Dont think so. Only because after the break in period, you will floor it harder and more often, psychologically, you might find it sound better.

Its my opinion that the motor is a bit louder, it may just be that I am more "tuned" in to the noise. Some of the guys have had their resonators removed, I will be doing the same, they report the car is a bit louder and actually gains a few HP in the process.
The tranny on the C55 can be switched between M/S/C at anytime.
I didn't know people had taken del. of the SLK55, hot car congrats.
