Loud noise when starting my C55?
Well, today I noticed about 3 out of 7 starts with my car that 3 times the second I turn the key I hear a very loud bang, almost like a loud explosion. To me I can best describe it as, you know those stupid things u throw down on the floor on the 4th of July that pop? well the second I turn the key and the engine fires it sounds like someone jumped on a whole box of them. What is this? I only heard it today. But about 3 times, and I started it about maybe 7 times today. If I hear it again I will I will have to give the dealer a call.

don't know what that could be. Once in a while when I start my dad's ML55, right after the engine has turned over, and while its revving quickly to about 1500 RPM(like every car), there's a loud clicking sound that clicks quickly 4 or 5 times...but you say yours sounds like an explosion, so it must be something totally different. Keep us posted on what the dealer says!!

I actually have not put any gas in yet. This is how it came from the dealer. Its gas from california, so is this common there? lol. I actually drove it hard for 227 miles and i got about a 1/4 left. Not to bad for a V8.
But u guys really think it can be from the gas? why did i only hear it yesturday? and why is it only on some starts?

check your engine mounts. even if the mount is not broken its possible that the bolt is loose or fell out and the engine mount bangs against the chasis when started. I know i had a similar problem

I would take it to the dealer and see if you can repeat the noise while they are present. I wouldn't take any chances on it going away and then it being some bigger problem down the line. Take it in and let them look it over.

if you have a digicam with video capabilities, carry with you when you start the car...record it, because most likely the dealer will just blow you off and say they couldnt duplicate the problem...show them the video and most dealers will accept that. Sucks on such a nice new car

Well, today i called a friend of mine. He is a tech a my local MB dealer. I explained the problem and he said he really cant tell anything without checking it out. He said it can be from the gas. So he told me to go fill it up with some premium gas incase the dealer did not use any at first. So now i have a full tank (shell 93 octane) I did not hear the noise yet, but then again i did not hear it other times besides yesturday also. So his advice after the gas was to see if i hear it again, and if i hear it one more time then something will need to be checked, and i at that time i will bring it in right away.
I will keep you guys updated.

The only reason why i think it might not be the gas is because i did not hear it any of the other days...

I am a proud new owner of a C55 as well, and I haven't heard a noise like that.
One question I have for you, is how hard did you actually drive your car to get 220+ miles on it, and still have a 1/4 tank left?
I have had mine for a little over a month, and I haven't ever gotten 220 miles to a tank yet! I wanna make sure that there is not something wrong with my ride! I get tired of going to the gas station....
Thanks!

Glad that they were at least able to find the problems in your car. I might take mine by the dealership and tell them that I don't get good gas mileage, and see what their "computers" can find.

maybe u should get a dyno test for your c55 to see if the car is really losing power because sometimes it is a mental thing, where people "feel and think" their cars are losing power. just my .02.
also, what is the name of your dealer?
let us know how things worked out for your! I would be interested to know what are the ECU faults that the dealer diagnosed.
Good Luck!
