Bought The Escort 8500 X50
I picked it up tonight from BestBuy and connected it in the parking lot. It detected radar while I was leaving the parking lot, so I know it's working.
On my way home, I saw a police car dead ahead and it didn't do anything. Not a beep, so I guess that particular cop wasn't using anything. I thought my detector would have at least beeped, picking up something from the cop car? Guess not.
I'm headed for San Francisco tomorrow morning, so I figured I'd try this thing out for the trip to see how I like it. Time to go to bed as I have to get up early to leave.

PS Damn, I'll be missing football Sunday

A cop can be right behind you and it will not go off it their radar is not on. Other then that, most cops hiding out have their radar on and they do help alot. I don't have a Escort, but my radar detector has saved me a few times.

Nickerz, are you in Cali? If so, are radar detectors legal? I've always had an impression that they were illegal in Cali. If they are legal, I'm picking one up for my car (albiet it's a lot slower and not quite a c55...)

I'm in Cali but I was under the impression they are legal, if not, I don't think I could pick one up at BestBuy. It's the Laser Jammers that are illegal I believe in Cali, it's a misdemeanor.

I have V1 for several years and it's worked well for me, however according to
this report, you may have a good one there.
Also informative is the link at the end
of the report above.

Yeah, I'm back from San Francisco and it went off at key times and then I came up on a cop car who had already pulled someone over.
I have to say, it's relatively quite but when it goes off, it's usually for a reason. So no false alarms.
I noticed that the X50 is programmed with POP turned off by default. So I turned it on and there was one I got a POP reading and it was very distinct and loud. I slowed down but didn't see anything around. ???

I forgot to mention that I averaged 18.8mpg on my trip up to SF! I was doing 80 - 90mph most of the way and 100 at times up hills! I was very impressed with this! Not to mention I love how this car rides at such high speeds. My girlfriend fell asleep while I was cruising at 90mph. When she woke up, I asked her how fast do you think we are going without looking at the speedo? When I told her 90mph, she said it felt like we were doing the speed the limit. Very smooth car!
I also love the fact that this car dominates at those speeds when passing another car and going up hills! I actually made my passes up hill when I knew other cars would be struggling. It's funny how other drivers will be going slow and as soon as there is an opening and you want to pass, they speed up. Well, not fast enough as I barely had to apply more gas my car was gone!

I have both a V1 and a Passport 8500 (non X50), I have to admit that I prefer the passport in town as the V1 is hyper sensitive, but I would stick with the V1 as the arrows and multiple bogey warnings have proved useful.

Cars and boats!
ive had X band go off at appropriate times... Neal... dont turn off X, my escort picked up a cop hiding in a corner with a gun.. his gun set off my X band.. but mostly Ka band goes off for cops here, even though there are lots of Ka false alarms!!!!

I think I would like the arrows better too, but I believe there is a setting for the Passport to show you multiple type of radar it's picking up and how sensitive it is. I guess you are referring to whether or not it's coming from front, side or back.
Side question...
BenzoAMG: Do you have the blue or red light? BestBuy only carried the red light but I've read the red light is easier to see. If you have the blue, is it easy to see in the daylight? I'd rather have blue to match the ambiance color of the C55 interior (i.e., Navigation).

Radar detectors are only illegal in Virginia ... and this other place i forgot :\
Although it's legal here in NY, i still try to avoid cops from seeing me having one so they won't pick on me :v

I have the V1 and its the best investment that I've made for my car. It saved my spanish black a$$ plenty of times. The Escort and the V1 are equally matched just that the V1 has the arrows for bogeys and you can upgrade the radar detector when there's a new version. I'm going to upgrade mine in Jan.
The downfall about the V1 that its super sensitive and you'll get false alarms in shopping centers and at some intersections. It doesnt bother me anymore but when I have any passengers I'll just lower the volume.

in conjunction to one of the other popular posts in this forum ("got a reckless driving ticket"), has anyone with a radar detector gotten pulled over by the police?
if so, were the cops ****s to you? I assume that it'd be really shady and might scare or incite the cops if you try to frantically rip the detector off your windshield as they're pulling you over. Also, it creates a presumption that you were speeding in the first place, so they wouldn't be too lenient with ya.
any thoughts? thanks!
