Using "C" mode during break-in.
I've been keeping the tranny in "C" mode (most of the time) during the break-in because that's what the Owner's Manual says to do for the 1st 1K mi. It's a little boring but I'm curious why they say to do this. I would think you would want to break in 1st gear also and "C" starts out in 2nd.

Break it in like you're going to drive it... I didn't adhere to the break-in period...

The reason for using comfort mode in the break-in period is to have a situation where you are not shifting the transmission hard.
Transmissions need to be broken in for the 1k miles. You can break an engine in in as little as twenty miles. The thousand miles is mostly for the transmission.
If you want to use first gear, then fine, shift into first while in comfort mode. Just downshift until you hit first. You will still be in comfort mode, which softens shifts, and breaking in first gear as much as any other gear.
I hope this answers your question. If you value your car and plan on keeping it for a long period of time, a good break-in can prevent a lot of problems down the road.
