Where the C55 is made?
LHD: Germany , RHD: SA
Ride Quality?
Very stiff suspension ride is very bumpy on rough roads i.e. uncomfortable
Rear Passenger comfort?
The seats of C class is hard, they are very uncomfortable comparing with my Ex-E class W210, Honda Accord, BMW Z3
Trunk space?
Not sure how big you need, a large suitcase and a golf bag can fit
Maintenance and problems?
C55 W203 has a common problem of leaking tranny oil, a half day job to fix by dealer. No other problems since I got mine 5 months ago, with milege 6000 km

I thought all AMGs are made in Affalterbach, Germany regardless of LHD or RHD?
As for ride quality - stiff, but tolerably so. I have a very stiff setup on my Audi for autox purposes, so the AMG is certainly firm but not harsh. People who are used to driving big luxo cruisers or SUVs will probably not like it however.
My passengers have so far liked the car a lot in the rear. Decent leg room, and the seats are a little thin but okay for a short trip. Definite nono for super long trips for full size adults though.
Trunk space is okay. My seats fold down, so it helps, but surely not as much as the C230 coupe we used to have or even my Audi A4.

AMG engines yes, all made in Affalterbach.
No series cars are produced in Affalterbach any more only super custom cars like the CLK DTM and HWA's CLK GTR's and custom one offs.
Before I get pelted:
AMG still builds one offs for customers in Europe
Technically the CLK DTM is built by HWA
AMG still hand builds the F1 Pace cars in house
I know I missed some things but I am sure others will fill in the picture....

I will not discourage you so much. I have driven my C32 on many long trips. Similar suspension to C55. I have driven 60,000+ miles, mostly highway, except when on the track. Trunk is big enough to haul 4 suitcases + additional stuff. In fact, I have driven to tracks with 4 wheels and competition tires, jack, tools, clothes, small cooler, etc, with my wife and her stuff. Its all what you want to do. I also had an E class which admittedly is much more comfortable, has a bigger trunk, but is not as much fun to drive. So a lot depends on what you want. If performance is not a priority, put your money into an E class, or save a lot and but a C320. If performance is a priority, you will quickly get used the size of the C class.
