Supercharger Replacement
Took my 32 in for some "bearing noise" near the front of the kompressor and got a call back today that they will be replacing the unit. I asked for a cost on the item if it wasn;t under warranty and he said he's let me know when he got it in...I was impressed that the tech said it would only take a day or two.
What's the typical service life on these? I've had a number of centrifigal's and they usually lasted about 40,000 or so before a rebiuld. I had an '03 Cobra, but not long enough to evaluate its durability.
I spoke to Hartmut and he mentioned that there is a fairly significant load on the kimpressor.
Any thoughts?

With the pulley, the max rpm increases from ~15,000rpm to well over 17,000 rpm (at least for the evo pulley). I would assume that there is some impact on service life, but it would really be bad news all around if it happened this soon after your pulley install.
As I recall, the AMGs have a different type of supercharger that they first put into production service with the C32s. So there may not be much historical data on this specific application.
Let us know what happens with your dealer. Gotta keep that old pulley handy...

So how many miles did you have on the the car? And do you have an aftermarket pulley?
With so much clatter and niose from this engine, how did you notice a whine? Was it a really bad noise. Mine makes so many noises that I don't know what is normal and what's not.

About 40k miles...
The noise is distinct from the usual diesel-like clatter at idle. The sound is like a high pitched whine/bearing noise. If you pay attention to your car you'd notice it right away, especially outside the vehicle.

I just had some work done too.
My 03 with only 15K miles had the same high pitch squeaking coming from the supercharger vicinity. They ended up just replacing the pulley/tensioner (right next to the supercharger clutch/pulley). And all the drive belts. The noise went away and is running normal again.

I have a clatter from the top of my supercharger, is that normal or a sign of failure?
edit, never mind, I just reread the previous posts a little more carefully and found an answer
