engine mounts

hey guys, i wanted to see if anyone here has changed their engine mounts and if so how long did it take. I know mines are bad, i can see the dried up spilliage on the engine mounts - they popped. now just from looking in the engine bay, it looks like the exhaust manifold might be in the way, may not be worth doing it myself as far as time is concerned. any inputs?

I just ordered new ones. FYI get the 99 E55 mounts, apparently they are a little stronger than those of the C43 (pure-motorsport sells them). I think replacing them is not a DIY job because of the accessibility issue. I would think that it would not take more than 3 hours for a mercedes mechanic, however that is mere conjecture.

yeah , i also saw a tech note somewhere telling all mechanics if they are to replace the c43 engine mounts that they do not use the regular 430 mounts but specifically the c43 because its stronger than the regular 430 ones. i didn't know about the e55 mounts being stronger than the c43, thanks for this great info!

who is going to do your work?

correction - apparently i forgot where i saw that tech note, but checking on the part numbers at the dealer, the engine mounts for e430, c43 and e55 all have the same part numbers... so whichever ones we use i guess would be ok. i just wished they had somehting stronger and dont really know why they would even pop.

I would check ( PM? ) "COOLCARLSKI" - he's the man with all the answers. I believe he upgraded his when he swapped motors.

sorry to hear about your engine mounts!
last time it happened to me (on a taurus) was when i lost control on an exit and ended up between the ramp and the exit in about a meter of snow. i couldn't even open the door
i was afraid someone would have to dig me out of there, snow was still coming down.
but . . . i started it up and just drove up the hill, i could not believe it! and neither could the other 5 people who stopped and got out of their cars to check out what happened with me

anyways, have you hit any potholes recently? speedbumps?
i didn't know engine mounts were a problem on a C43

yeah i checked PM and that is where i saw the same part numbers and then called the dealer and they basically said the same thing about the same partnumbers for e430, c43 and e55. no biggie though.

as far as the engine mounts going bad on c43, well i dont know if its common, but they do go bad. the engine mounts on the new MB's are liquid filled unlike the older styles where its just pure rubber. the liquid filled engine mounts are like shock absorbers for the engine supposedly. i haven't hit any potholes nor ever got into an accident - knock on wood, but the roads here in SF are pretty bad, maybe the constant engine shaking ruptured the engine mounts. i really noticed my engine shake when i got my car dyno'd man it looked violent hahahaha, with the new engine mounts, it should be less noticeable.
