I'm thinking of purchasing this 1996 C36. I've never owned one and know very little about their reliability. I would apprciate any help this forum could give me in evaluating this car and in the general weak points of these cars.

For the record, I think the C36 is one of the prettiest Mercedes every built.

I have never owned one but their weak point seem to be head gasket prone to failure. Only negative about the car is it is in WI. Be wary of rust. I have seen when a person got a good deal on a MB and it was was from MN . Looked great on top but had a lot of rust on underside.

I do agree that the C36 is ahelluva good looking car. I am going to go look at one on Monday. Was for sale dy a dealer but he ended up selling at a wholesale auction. He didn't like it when I told him it was worth only $14k(he was asking $17k). Now it is for sale by a different dealer.

All in all it looks clean, if you know a MB dealer o mecjanic I reccomend you get a VMI for the vehicle. I looked a C36 that seemed clean, but got 4 pages of parts replacd when my mechanic ran the VMI. Also, a Carfax would be reccomended.
