strange and weird squeak at shut down ...

hey guys,

my car has been making this weird sound, best way to describe it is like a semi-low pitched squeak (versus a squeal). it happens at engine shut down, and sounds like it is coming from my engine compartment, passenger side. sorta like when-a-moving-part-comes-to-a-stop kind of squeak. the loudness of it varies, but it happens everytime. i wonder if its a belt or something? i havent noticed any changes in the way the car drives.

anyone have any idea as to what the source of this squeak is? or am i the only one suffering from OCD here that actually notices these things?

Not at all bro. I spent an hour trying to track down the source of an odd "buzzing" when I got in my car. Turns out the rear cabin light bulb was just loose enough to make it buzz. I can't stand weird squeeks, creaks and pops. The irony is that in the Expedition it sounds like I'm hauling maracas and I don't even notice it.

Sounds like a belt or pulley - have someone shut down the car and listen up.

My 190 had a small AC compressor leak that would always make a strange sound when shutting it off and my Expy makes an odd humming sound that I attribute to something dropping compression when it's shut off. But like Staple said, stick your head in there and have someone else shut it off for you.

funny that you mention the ac compressor leak, because now, a coule of months after i first discovered the strange squeak at shutdown, my ac is not cold ... more like cool to luke warm ...

SDR, did you hear the "strange sound" upon turning off the ac, or the engine? i always shut off the ac (and radio) first, then shut off motor (yes, another OCD trait of mine!). i hear the squeak when i shut the motor off.

ive been so busy lately that i havent had the chance to have someone else shut her down while i listened to the engine bay to find the actual source of the squeak. thats on the to do for this weekend for sure.
