c36: early models vs later models

Hi guys. Im in the process of selling my saab viggen at the moment and the c36 is my first choice of replacement. from what ive read there are a lot of problems with this car, but most of the cars that seem to have problems are 95s (atleast thats what it seems like to me). The car i have my eye on is a 97 with 156k and appears to be very well kept. should i expect to have the common problems, or are the later models more reliable?

I bought my 95 C36 about 5 months ago which had 88k miles. Now have over 94k. The gaskets were replaced before I bought it. But I did the wiring harne$$ and oil changes. All the fluids were new. Came with new tires, brakes. The car runs like a champ. The I6 is smooth as butter.

Hey Jared I want to ask you something. Ive noticed the temp gauge would hit 100c on a really hot day sitting in traffic AC off. 90c is right on the half mark. Everyone I asked said it was normal. My 350z always stays below the half mark no matter how hot,hrs in traffic. What about your c43?

Yeah its about the same, the car normally runs slightly over the half mark on the temp gauge, on a really hot day, especially in traffic it can get close to 3/4 mark.

those big fans on the c36 don't seem to work, no matter how loud/fast they are operating. any time the outside temp reaches over 90, the temp gauge creeps higher and higher. been that way since it came from the factory.

Everything I read on the C36 before I got mine says they run a little hotter than the normal inline 6 engine. Don't know why. Mine also does the same.

So it is normal. The first time I saw the gauge move past the half way mark. I thought the motor was overheating!

c36s do run a little on the hot side, but they don't just overheat.
water wetter does help a little, about 5-10 degrees lower temps
