You could reseal this portion with Permetex sealant, but it's a bit of a bugger to clean it all out too.
I did this on my C43, but I left it on my C55 when I did the valve cover gaskets, plugs and coils on it recently.
Also, the plugs might be bit easier to remove when the valve covers are off, especially if you don't have the plug wire removal tool (I just used a 17mm angled box wrench with the box end cut open though), and the car is high mileage. I don't think the previous owners of my C43 ever changed the plugs, unfortunately. The first time I did them, I ended up butchering the wires and some of the plugs too.
Here we go!
I did find that if the hoses are oldish, they will be very hard to remove anyway - so best just to cut them off and replace them. They aren't very expensive anyway. But I would avoid Uro Parts pieces like the plague. I had a few of those breather hoses and they began to disintegrate after a year - and the engine barely ran in that year! Boo.
I managed to remove the plugs with just straight type spark plug sockets - but using a variety of them to get the 'correct' depth. Wobble extensions help immensely too. The plug wire removal tool isn't readily available for me locally, I've only seen them on eBay or the specialty parts stores online - but it literally took me 30 seconds with the angle grinder to cut the box end of the angled wrench open. Cake. I might buy a spark plug socket with the universal joint on it next time though - but the plug change interval is quite long!
