sorry if i come accross as rude but i have come to resent how much people think that their car is for listening to music as opposed to driving. during one of my engineering courses in college we had group projects to propose the design and engineering implemented in useful technological items, and during presentation the peers would critique the design, it was supposed to warm us as engineers up to the idea of putting work and effort into something and then have somebody critique it which is how engineering operates.

my proposal was for a sweet touch sensitive lcd hud which displayed all useful information about the car. ie various temps, pressures and things of that sort. i always knew it was a good idea and now low and behold the new skyline gtr has that very same useful peice of technology which i love (you can monitor the g forces and graph them vs time, very sweet!)

when i presented my design guess what the asses in my class began to critique. "oh thats....ok..... but does it play mp3's?" and "oh.....cool.... is there a dvd changer hidden under the seat or something?" they got the old "*** you" is what they got as a reply. ever since i have hated greatly on peoples obsessions with car audio...

on a personal note- it's ridiculous to think i'm safer when "listening to my engine" (130+ comes up awful fast) than when i'm looking for cd's (which coincidentally no one really uses anymore, do they?).

youre right, instead youre trying to read the title of the next song in your mp3 list. its all the same it takes attention away from the road

just put in some new mids (image dynamics xs65s) and got my car all tuned up audio and engine stuff wise to head down to this show in stl on wednesday-

i'm changing my opinion as earlier stated here-- the audio side of things is a bigger rush than the engine of my car (and therefore that of a stock c43 by a wide wide margin) without a question.

you should build a speaker box with wheels on it and use that to ride around in...

isn't that what he has now? Except that its a nice speaker box with lots of horse power. Hey SeeKlasse, my brother years ago got into an accident because he looked down to turn the channel on his stereo. Since that experience he puts on a channel or cd and leaves it there. He barely ever looks down to do anything with his stereo.

So I know what you mean and how strong you feel about this. But you should not try to impose people with your strong opinions/facts. Its their life their car their responsibility. I like to have a nice radio thats not so much to have it LOUD but that sounds nice so I can enjoy my music. When I get to certain traffic thats congested I lower the radio so I can know whats going on. When the roads are clear I turn it up. I also like to make sure that WHATEVER I have for music is something I love so I DONT have to be changing songs here and there.

And when my wife or daughter is with me THEY take care of the music.
So there are many of ways to enjoy music and be safe at the same time.

On another note, I really appreciate all the responses you guys gave to my question. The C43 is an awsome car and even when I see newer MB AMG'S I just look but never do I get tempted to want to buy one. The C43 is all I can ask for, sports car like my cutlass supreme with a chevy 350 engine, and mustang with a 351 cleveland, its a nice daily driver as you guys mentioned and very fun to drive. I can go on and on as to how much I love this car. Anyone that test drives the car they are always impressed!

you should come up with an argument that makes sense

i'll say it again- my stereo has no more effect on the performance of my car than having my 110 lb little sister in the car with me. Small price to pay if you ask me, particularly when you bear in mind the power differences between your cars and mine (and more so when you consider i've just gotten started). I don't understand why it's such an "all or nothing" argument for you? Cars (particularly luxury cars) and music should go hand in hand- it's all a part of the driving experience. If i had a track car it wouldn't have a stereo... Heck, when i had non-luxury "fast" car it had a very basic and very light stereo. You're argument will make sense the day you pull your 8 speaker pile of bose crap out of your car because you want to listen to your stock 300 hp AMG engine as you idle in traffic or cruise down the freeway at 65 mph (which is without question what you do 99% of the time you are driving)

Mercedes C43 AMG Estate
Smile Its AWESOME!!

I bought my C43 Estate from a dude on Ebay in May for £7500. She's a Nov '99 done 55,000 miles and frankly is as good as new. I just drove my brother, his wife and there 2 kids 250 miles back from Cornwall to Surrey fully loaded with luggage and we we accellerating up long hills, flying past all other vehicles like it was only me in the car. The reservses of power are amazing. I filled up befor we started and 250 mles later we still had a shade under half a tank. I reckon if we had carried on we might have got nearly 400 miles to the tank.

It feels such a waste to drive her on short trips not to mention my gas milage goes right down to about 280 miles to a tank.

The handeling is brilliant for a guy like me who hates slowing down for cures and bends, I just turn the wheel and round she goes, not even any tyre squeal, the orange triangle flashes quite a lot though.

My brother commented on how quiet she is at 90, like you cant hear the engine at all.

To sum up, Im thrilled with my C43, and am looking forward to many years ownership.

kind regards to all

Veight

Just got back from a long trip in the C43.

Got approx 720km/450 mi out of the tank without any trouble cruising at 115kmh/70 miles per hour and overtaking anything in my way much at speeds much higher than that!

Interestingly I did the same trip in my W202 C240 2 yrs ago and got pretty much the same milage......i know which was more fun though!

The C43 is definately a great all-rounder. Can go upto the shops, long distance cruising, track days. If only there were more C43 wagons in Australia, I've only ever seen 1, I would take a wagon anyday.

Did you have to change front springs?
How much faster is it?
How's the mpg?

I do, that's why I asked. When and if my engine goes out I would like to replace it with a 5.5. But not if the mpg gets really bad. If 1 mpg is the right amount compared to the c43 than thats great!

Hey on my E55, I was able to get a single MB CD player off ebay. It works , however the display doesn't light up. The computer doesn't recognize it the stealer says, but it plays fine most of the time - just with the boot leg CDS it goes to Germany looking for the tracks.

Is there a single MB head unit for our cars?
