Brake pad cost outrageous

I just called the dealer to find out the cost on brake pads for my C43 and they told me $300! Whoa! And just for pads! Does anyone know where I can find OE quality pads cheaper? I guess thats the price you have to pay to own an exclusive car...

Try Evosport or Porterfield.

The pads should cost you anywhere from $70 - $85 for OEM pads. You can get them from www.thebenzbin.com at a pretty good discount. They are not listed on the site, but if you give them a call, they will be able to get the parts for you.

As my service advisor said to me, the cost of brake pads for my car (CLK55, ~$380) could be explained in three letters: AMG.

If you find an aftermarket source, let me know......

Even at BenzBin, CLK55's go for $255 for the front set..... step up to a CL55 and you can get 'em for only $72. go figure.....

C43/E55/CLK55 front brake pads are all the same, and will set you back in the neighborhood of three bills.

Porterfields can be had for less than half that, and mine don't squeak (only the backs squeak).

If you're interested in some OEM pads, I have three sets laying around... I could let one go cheap.

what are you doing with 3 sets of OEM brakes pads that cost nearly $300 a set (fronts only) laying around?

I'm also in the CA bayarea (danville to be exact) which city are you in?

Haha, the brake pad sets came off two of my cars. The third came off another car. We put Porterfields on all of them in a mad fit of brake work. From this experience I can claim that the Porterfields don't stop any better than the AMG OEM, don't seem to last longer, do seem to eat my rotors more, and are not dust-free (although the dust is probably 50% lower than OEM).

Scorchie's Import Tuna is located in San Carlos.

I would be wary of purchasing brake pads from this place.

1) like you said, the brand?

2) It concerns me when a place has pads listed for the C43 but not for the CLK55 or E55 (these are all the same application). I had this problem with Porterfield... they had the WRONG application for the C43. I sent them back and just asked them to send me pads for the CLK55, which they protested, but eventually relented.

I also received the wrong pads for my ML430 (despite being asked for my VIN), but that's another story too.

Beware the torrid web that is "Mercedes parts".

Yeah, I kind of had the same thoughts. I was always told to stick with Textar, Brembo, Balo, Ate, Pagid and other oem brands like that. Parts Giant brakes are probably made in the US or China for that matter.

Porterfield now sells them for 98 (green) and 108 (red), those pads should be as good as OEM and even better because of the brake dust, they should reduce brake dust by a lot, I'll buy the red ones when I heed to replace (probably 20k miles from now)
