Anyone have recommendation on extended warranty?

I am considering buying a 1998-2000 C43. Tranny stories worry me as I do not want to put an extra $4k into the car if the tranny blows up. I got a quote for $1,400 on an extended "Great Choice" warranty. In looking at the covered items I'm not sure if this warranty really is legit or likely to exclude most failures on the car. Given that there is no deductible, it is making me think it may be in the realm of too good to be true products. I've read one person here got their tranny repaired under an extended warranty. If anyone has had good experience with one, can you let me know what company that is? I'm looking for a C43 with 50-90K miles but worries of major repair costs are holding me back right now. I'll try to attach the PDF of the warranty for $1400 so the mechanics in the forum can figure out if it is a good thing to buy or just a scam.

BTW, is there any difference in reliability between the 98, 99 or 2000 models?

its your call

$1400 is a lot of money..before i bought my car last month the tranny stories scared me too but all u have to do is take it to a reliable MB mechanic and get it check and change the fluid and the filter...i bought all my cars used from toyota, nissan, honda and BMW and never bought any extended warranty..basically buying a used car is picking the right one, from previous service records and the car's history..just maintain it like how you treat your old car...MAINTENACE!!,MAINTENANCE!!,MAINTENANCE!!..u will never regret buying a C43..good luck!!

I Googled "GreatChoice" to see what I could find and virtually nothing comes up. Kind of strange as if it were a scam I would expect to see a lot of stuff on it. But strange there is not much one way or the other about them.

If you guys want a good laugh, scroll down to near the bottom of this web page and check out the pickup for sale. Maybe the husband is trying to get rid of his wife and is including her with the pickup! I just had to laugh at the photos. (Found it as greatchoice was mentioned on the web page.)

Not looking good...

I asked them for a more complete description of coverage and got the attached PDF file. Seems like there are enough exclusions to deny just about any claim. I think I know now why there is no deductible. If you deny all the claims, you have no need for a deductible! Check out the exclusions I copied below. I would guess with those just about any claim could be denied...

"Any and all claims or damage resulting from: abuse, negligence, freezing,
overheating of any type, failure to maintain proper coolant, fluid, refrigerant, or lubrication levels..."

"Worn or burned Components are not covered. Covered Components will be replaced with like kind and quality based on Administrator’s discretion."

"Excessive oil consumption and diminished performance are not covered."

"Leaking seals, gaskets or fittings are not covered."

"Covered Components that are worn or burned but NOT broken are not covered."

"Any component not listed as a Covered Component is not covered."

"If Vehicle usage or climate conditions meet any of the “severe” criteria, Purchaser is required to adhere to the severe maintenance schedule as listed by the Vehicle manufacturer."
