Trunk wont pop!!!!

Trunk wont pop!!!!
The trunk will not pop open in my 98' C43!
The little red light is on in the trunk switch in the center consol and I know that it wont pop it this is on but the damn thing wont turn off! If I let the car sit for a while and sneak up on it the trunk will pop with the remote but if I open the door the red light comes on and the trunk will not pop.
I am assuming that this may be becasue the switch panel is bad, moisture or someone spilled something. I saw a new switch harness on Ebay for around $150.
Has anyone had this problem and if so is replacing the switch a DIY?

i had a problem with my trunk not opening once last year, but not quite the same as yours. my trunk wasnt opening with the fob or the console button from time to time, and the problem ended up being something with the tranny -- cpu thought the car was not in park (which it needs to be for the trunk remote to work).

Sounds like it is an electrical issue, but just to be sure, you are positive that your trunk hinge springs didn't shear their mounting brackets loose right? This happened to me twice in 6 months, and on the second time it was the "opening" spring the broke. This just meant that the trunk no longer popped open, and when I would manually open it, the thing would try to slam shut any time I wasn't forcibly holding it open. You would have heard a loud bang if this happened though, and the latch would still pop when you selected the trunk pop function.......the lid just wouldn't move
