wait- yours isn't connected?

wtf is it?

I know I don't have a logical place for it to hook up to or anything, but I got confused and stopped putting things together when I saw it.

 

Please don't follow this advice.....

Here is a pic I snapped at work, I think you'll be able to tell from this Drew.

The male portion of the sensor clip is wired into the fuel rail wiring harness and should be hanging within inches of that. The vacuum line goes into the EGR valve bell looking piece that contains the valve.

ya, figured out the fuel rail clip now, new wher the vac line went, but still what is the black circular plug thing? I've got it al ready to go together but for the life of my lost on that piece- I think that was what he was saying to leave hanging?

 

Is the plug connected to something? It looks like a firewall plug for wires/tubing.

 

the unit is the egr and switch over valve. the round thing is just a vent. when vacuum is released air is vented in to close the valve. the vent has a filter in it. it is not necessary but should be repl when you have a chance.

Make sure you COMPLETELY RESEAL the intake manifold internally with a gasket maker or you will have serious problems!!

 

hey sorry to bring this old thread up. so you guys are saying on the switch over valve the nipple has no vacuum line connected to it? thanks.

 

Completely reseal? Are you talking about where the manifold bolts up to the head? BC I only used the factory manifold seals and it's having what I think is a a vacuum issue. The WIS didn't mention a full gasket either...

 

I know this is an oldy, WIS says the manifold is not serviceable and you should never open it.

Has anybody successfully resealed one? I would like to know as mine is full of carbon and could do with a clean out before I reassemble.

I know this is an old thread but perhaps I can get some help. On the picture, the yellow is where the outside gasket goes. Is the area marked in blue where I would apply gasket maker?

 

I think that gasket maker needs to be applied as your picture shows. Nice clean manifold You are a very brave man to have split the manifold. We have heard of plenty of bad stories of faulty reseals with leaks difficult to trace after...

I wonder if there are other means of removing the oil build up inside without splitting or changing the manifold. Perhaps ultrasonics?

 

yes, it was a huge pain in the *** to get everything cleaned.

 

that is the EGR Valve... Its hard to explain but each valve cover has a small cover on it that clogs with oil.. and this is the PCV system.. that attaches to the EGR Valve and the secondary air injection system (for cold start emissions) and thats on the front of the motor.. then theres a electric vacuumn valve that drives this thing... that your holding. but yes the fancy metal hose goes into the intake manifold itself (usually choked with oil) and then that valve has an electrical connection to it from the big harness thats attached to the fuel injector rail.
