1998 BRABUS C 5.8
The Sickness

Hey guys,

I’ve been trolling the C36/C43 forum for awhile and I thought I would take a minute to introduce myself. For over 8 years I have owned a 1998 C230, Obsidian Black over Tan with 77K miles. I’ve been a member here for over 6 years and 2 months and I only have 140 posts. Sad I know, but simply put, there hasn’t been anything worth speaking of until now.

Recently I believe I was bitten by the pandemic mod bug. It began with what could only be called obsessive trolling of MBWorld. When the symptoms first started to appear, they were in the form of modest mods like a White Star Flat Badge (#365) and the Cassette Tape Storage Delete/Map Pocket install. Shortly thereafter the mods progressed. Out of nowhere an Audio 10 CD player arrived at my door, followed by Bilstein Sport Shocks and Eibach Pro-Kit Springs. Next were a Front K-Mac Kit and Lensolo Rear Camber Arms. I nearly committed myself when I opted for 35% Formula One Pinnacle Series all around when I don’t even have a GPS or TMPS.

At first I was able to hide the symptoms from friends and family by hiding the unopened or empty boxes in my home office and garage, but things spiraled out of control when one night my unsuspecting girlfriend found me on the dining room floor salivating over 4 large boxes that contained MBCLK60’s 18” BRABUS Monoblock VI’s. Searching for a cure I contacted Luke at TireRack, who prescribed to me (4) Goodyear Eagle F1’s, but to no avail. The disease persisted.

Surely it can’t get any worse, I reassured myself, but it has. Late one night after recalling that I had ordered a set of Bekker’s clear corners that remained on backorder, I came to the realization that I was subconsciously attempting to build a C43 out of my C230!! Admittedly, without a full transplant this is an impossible mission and one that would only leave me feeling empty and unsatisfied inside. The lifeblood of the vehicle would never be there to satisfy the disease. What was I to do? I was hanging on by a thread.

Trolling posts by money-one, NitrogenBalance, silence, hooleyboy, ProjectC55, jstrat85, c55m80, and others who have been bitten, only seemed to fuel my demise. The past two months have been a blur and can only be described as a hiatus from all that is my reality in search of a cure. Home renovations remain on hold and my production at the office is nonexistent as I feverishly searched MBWorld, ebay . . . and not just ebay, ebay in Germany of all places and I don’t even speak German.

Then this morning there was a knock at the door. As my girlfriend answered the door a FedEx delivery man handed her an envelope. After returning she opened it as I sat there in silence staring at the floor like a child in timeout. Inside was a title signed over to my attention with a executed Bill of Sale for 1998 Mercedes-Benz C 43 AMG. WTF have I done?

I know that disease first hand. I think you'll enjoy your new purchase. Let us know what you think once you've had a chance to take her for a spin. Enjoy!

Good read man made me smile and laugh. Only difference here is that my boxes get delivered to work so the entire place knows whats up when fed-ex rolls in. That said, I bet 80% of my mods are unknown to my household..ha ha ha.

Congrats on the new purchase. I would swap some of your C230 stuff onto that C43 as most will work.

So are you ready to make an offer on my supercharger system.. Its been fully rebuilt with a port and polish with maybe 100 miles on it. Then your girlfriend(and luke at tire rack) will really love you.

NitrogenBalance,

. . . a supercharged BRABUS C 5.8 . . .

We may be on our way to finding the cure. Here's a little more information on the car:

What's a man to do? I blame the sickness.
