Im sure this has happened to you before.

When I start my car I just tip the key and let go as fast as possible. Normally this works unless you let go too fast and the car just makes a sound for a second.

Well lately my car has been doing this even if I hold the key. It usually does it twice in a row before I can successfully start it.

I turn the key and hold it but it still makes that sound as if I did the tip start way too fast.

Any idea??

check your trans module for fluid. Could also be conductor plate. Mine has been doing the same off and on. Have codes stored in etc for some sensors on the conductor plate. Just being lazy to replace it.

If it sounds like the engine tried to start then stopped to early (before it actually started) then it sounds like you need a bit of lube on the ring gear. Basicly it thinks it has started and turn the starter off before it actually started. It's a old problem for all the M112 and M113's

how do you lube the ring gear and where is it?

You have to go underneath the car. At the rear of the oil pan, there is a black cover that allows access to the flex plate bolts. There you can apply a light coat of lube to the flex plate/ring gear teeth. There is DTB a long time ago regarding the engagement of the starter gear on the flex plate, this was the fix for it

Now that makes sense. So it was a tsb for a bendix gear issue. Another member was playing with the crank sensor and some one said to grease the ring gear. Couldn't figure out the connection. Thanks ricecooker

Bringing this sucker back from the grave. I'm beginning to have an issue of longer starting times and want to make sure I address all possible issues.

Who's got an answer???
