Drag radials for C43
What would be the best size tires and rim diameter that one could use on the C43?
17"
18"
and what size tires can fit without doing and crazy mods to the rear fenders?

1.16x8 OEM older SL wheels from ebay or needswings if you can't find them. They may be buying them all up and re-selling on there site.
2.Hooiser 255/50/16 drag radials
Some have streached these onto a 16x7.5 which is much easier to find than a 16x8. Manufacture suggests 8" I recall. I researched the death out of this before my car blew up. There are a few on this site with great #'s and experience that highly recomend this setup. Have you looked into what blackbenzz is running?

As a general rule the shortest wheel you can fit with the tallest tire you can fit (assuming the gear ratios work out to support it) will give you the best result. Basically you want a tall-ish sidewall for the best acceleration. Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials worked well on the back of my Formula, M&H Racemaster Radials work well also. I don't have any experience with the Hoosiers mentioned above...so nothing good or bad to say about those.
I will say this, though...if you have a dedicated set of wheels to use and will only be using them at a track, I suggest a bias ply drag slick like an MT ET Drag, or even ET Street (non radial).
The best advice I can give...stay away from Nitto 555r & BFG drag radials.

So it looks like I should go with 16" rims but use the tallest sidewall I could fit.

The Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials for a 16" wheel are 255/50R16's, they are 26.1" tall, 10.5" sidewall width, 9.6" tread width, and fit well on a 16x8 wheel. The side wall height will be about 5". These tires were good enough to take my Formula to 11.5's all motor and 10.5's on spray with a 1.6 60 ft time. A lot of people say they wear out quick, and if you are always doing burn outs at the track that's true...but they saw street/strip duty on my car for about 12,000 miles, so they aren't bad at all.
Discount tire usually has a good deal on them, and so does Summit Racing and Jegs. M&H Racemasters and Hoosiers can also be had at Summit and Jegs also. IIRC they will run $150-$180 per tire.
Also, I'm sure you already know this, but with the MT, M&H, or Hoosiers...do NOT drive them if the streets are wet, they are dangerous!
