c43 transmission replacement

My 99 c43 transmission gave up the ghost and I need to source a replacement. I've seen other members with this problem and remember seeing an aftermarket heavy duty one recommended, but can't find it now. Anyone have a better solution?

Sun Valley has been rebuilding MB transmissions forever. They ship worldwide and can be reached at 818 7688667 or 818 7680704 M-F 8 to 5 PST. Last I heard they wanted under $3K for a 722.632. The MB Classic Center in Irvine uses Transmeister in Orange CA - 714 532 1871. No idea what Transmeister would charge.

Thanks for the referrals. Transmeister would rebuild mine for $3500-3600. Sunset would R/R with a rebuilt unit for $2700. Not sure if it's worth the extra $$ to keep the original drive train intact? I know its a big deal with muscle car resale value though.

Hi C43 Padre,

I am in the same predicament right now. I spoke with Sun Valley and they also said they could do it for a lot less than my local mechanic. The thing is my local mechanic says he would rebuild the original transmission instead of swapping it which is what Sun Valley would do. What decision did you end up making?

What do you think I should do?

Thanks

Even if this is a thread revival, a transmission subject is rather rare these days, so one can justify a reply or two. You can rebuild the 722 transmission, upgrade and beef it up at the same time. This should be done by someone in the know. This may be the best solution if you are thinking of keeping the vehicle. I may be doing this in the next winter months together with a 5,5 engine upgrade and Quaife diff. Need to get everything over to Great Britain as you can find some great technicians who know MB's inside out and who practice reasonable hourly rates.

Ya I don't use this forum often. I just wanted someone to shed some light on a transmission rebuild for my C43. I need to investigate all possibilities.
