Quaife LSD
Has anyone here successfully installed or knows someone who has installed a quaife LSD into a W202 C43 diff housing? I know they make diffs for the 210mm and 215mm diffs, but they can't tell me if they can do one for the C43 and their installer (bird's, UK) won't tell me unless they have a diff to look at (not going to happen since I'm in Australia!).
I have a Kleemann LSD installed but I really don't like the idea of metal to metal friction during circuit racing. I've been changing the oil after every track day but it's starting to worry me because it must be getting very hot because the oil always comes out burnt.
I'd like to swap to a quaife if anyone here knows what parts I'm going to need.
Thanks!

Ausmbtech,
I too have the Kleeman LSD and worry about the same thing and last year broke the roll pin that hold the pinion? shaft in-place. When that occured the car went sideways and right off the corner.
I replaced it with a drill steel rod I machined and spot welded in-place.

I've had a really good look through this forum and others and all I can find is that all those who thought a quiafe would fit have tried or been told a 210mm diff center fits in the c43 diff housing (which it doesn't).
A quick look on EPC compairing a C43 diff to a CLK55 (208) diff/rear subframe/axles shows that they don't share any parts so it would be quite expensive to upgrade to a 210mm diff. the next problem would be that the 210mm diffs that are suitable are usually 2.82, not 3.06 like the c43 which will hurt the feel of the car without a upgrade to a 55 engine. I'm going to keep looking into it though!
How many people here would be interested in a quaife/peloquin LSD if I can get one built? It would suit the C43/E430/CLK430, not the C36 (sorry)

I doubt it would cost any more than the current quaife diff for the W210 and W211's. It's still not cheap, but they are good quality. I've fitted 3 quaife diff's now and I've yet to have a problem with them.

I've been speaking to quaife, they are willing to look into designing one for us, I'm going to send them a sample std diff center if they need it.
They want a minimum of 10 units.
What I'm looking for now is for those who want one (not who are just interested and want to add the usual "+1", people who would buy one when they are available).
Send me a PM with your name, email and location (state and country) so I can send this onto Quaife so they can see there is a genuine interest.
Thanks.

Factory 190 LSD will work with little modification. 3.07's I beleive. Not suited for power greater than 5.5L cars as seen here on mbworld.
MoneyOne had one for sale here a while back that was fitted for the W202 already.

I am in the middle of communications with drexler-motor sport regarding a custom LSD for our C43's. They have assured me that they can and will make one for me, I am sending them specs of my car and they will give me a price. I will post everything I find out as soon as I get the info.....

Specs have been sent, I await their reply. I am still waiting to hear back from my local kleeman dealer/installer You would think when someone expresses some interest in spending a couple grand they would get back to you ASAP, then again maybe they have $$$$$$ falling out of their pockets . I will post the findings as soon as I get them

Basically $2763.50 , that includes shipping and the fitting for the rear axle. Sure is a lot but they also informed they they have a dealer in the US so that would cut out about $400 for shipping and customs clearance and another $385 if you wanted to fit it yourself. So for around $1,900-$2,300 you could get a custom LSD made specifically for your C43 in 2 weeks time. Its about twice as much as I am looking to pay but like I have said before NOTHING is too good for my baby as long as it is WORTH the $$$$$. I am going to look for a cheaper option but I will definitely keep these guys in mind.....

UPDATE:
I finally received the price quotes from my local kleeman dealer/installer:
Here are the estimated prices for you;
ECU; $1095 + $45 labor + $90 shipping (next day both ways, about 3days downtime as ECU has to go to Kleemann USA in CO) = $1230
Headers; $1495 + ~$630 in labor = ~$2125
Cams; $2290 + ~$792 in labor = ~$3082
Supercharger; $8995 + ~$5000 labor/extra parts = ~$14,000 (please keep in mind that an ECU Flash should accompany the s/c kit so if you go with the ECU Flash to begin with, then add the s/c, you’d be looking at a second $1095 ECU Flash charge).
LSD; $945 + ~$540 in labor = ~$1485
1.) ECU tune is expensive but I am sure its one of the better ones out there and I am thinking about doing it.
2.) Headers are expensive as well for the 20 hp + 30 ft/lbs TQ gains but they are lighter than the stock and I'm betting they will improve the sound a little.
3.) the cams are EXPENSIVE but I am researching the gains
4.) The supercharger kit is ridiculously expensive and I wonder why anyone would pay that much. I could drop an unbelievably built 5.4L in and be n/a for LESS than $15,000 !!!!
5.) The LSD isn't too bad but from what I understand it is basically a phantom grip unit which I believe you can get for almost 1/2 that price.
All together it seems it will be WAY cheaper to go with the 5.4L conversion so I am thinking I am going to pass on the majority of these items. In the mean time I am looking at the ECU tune and LSD as I still want a little extra ooomph until I do the conversion and the LSD will DEFINITELY be needed when I drop the 5.4L in.

Your easiest option is to purchase a Rear differential from a CLK55 (209) and buy a QDF7V. Find some stub Flanges. Assemble using your factory driveshaft flange. Then install. Thats it. You will notice a very slight delay in shift. No programing involved.
Price $780 quaife $400 diff. $200 Flanges

Imagine your driving your car from a stop sign and right before it shifts into second the way you remember it doesn't and as soon as you start to say "why hasn't it shifted yet" it shifts. Once you drive like that for a week you won't notice it any more.
The gear ratio being a 3.06 when it should be a 3.07
