I put a page up here. If the page is missing anything, let me know.

this may be a little off-topic, but does anyone know of a head unit that retains the look and feel of the OEM unit (especially the color of the display) but is just an upgrade in terms of capabilities, sound and one that has a CD slot?

The Alpine head units that I have experience with allow you to choose between red and blue background colors. This is pretty common among manufacturers. Along with choosing red lighting, you could download wallpaper for the TFT monitor on an Alpine head unit at https://i-personalize.alpine.com

Choosing a different wallpaper would allow the screen to match the buttons and other lighting.

Hey Marcus do you know if a BOSE amp from a 1997 C-klass works on a 1999 C43 with D2B Canbus system?

I've seen the the amp with a blue colored plastic housing where you plug the connections others hav pink color plastic housing!
These plastic housing that covers the plug connector uses different colors?
Why is that?

Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to either question. I can guess the second answer, but it's only a guess - they use different colors so someone doesn't mistakenly use the wrong one. Like I said, that's just a guess.

I guess it makes sense about the colors!

but my 1999 c43 uses D2B Canbus system!
is the Bose amp operated by this D2B Canbus system?

I have on offer from a friend a 1997 Bose amp but in 97 MB didn't use D2B Canbus sytem!
So are these amps also working with the new Canbus system from 1999?

The question is if the 1997 Bose amp works on my car with my radio deck?
Both amps uses the same ps # 202 820 27 89
This shouldn't be a problem?
Would it?

Maybe the newer 1999 amp has an extra connector or something else vs the 1997 Bose amp?

If it has the same part number I bet it is the same. Usually if they make a mod of some sort (adding D2B) they change the part number to differentiate between the 2 (otherwise when you went to order them how would you tell the difference) If I remember correctly the D2B controls the cd changer. I could be wrong

1999 C280 with Bose system. For several years the system has been acting up, usually after a soaking rain if the car was parked outside. Symptoms started as buzzing in reart speakers but deteriorated over time: no sound in rear, then no sound on right side, then only sound is front left, then no sound at all for a few weeks, then sound back in the front only. The last condition lasted for about a year until a recent storm left me with no sound at all.

The head unit was replaced aourn '03 or '04 with a stock unit. Not sure if Alpine or Beckers is the OEM. The head seems to operate correctly, all functions on the display, tape deck opens and closes, etc.

Not sure if the problem is in the head unit or the amp. Any ideas about diagnosing?

I pulled the amp from the trunk P/N 202 820 30 89. Can I take it to a local shop to get checked out to see if it works?

bBsquad, PM me.

Also
I opened up the amp and there are three 2 X 32W Dual Bridge amplifier Integrated Circuits on the board. Two of the three had noticable corrosion of the leads, so I'm guessing that they are fried, but perhaps I am wrong.
The I/Cs are STMicroelectonics TDA7393, see here:
http://www.st.com/internet/com/TECHN...CD00000163.pdf
Or, is my head unit fried?

I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron, bet I could drop those I/Cs off the board and replace. Don't wanna if the problem is the head.

Perhaps I can simply drop an aftermark amp in the trunk? Yes? I'm not running a CD player......

Probably more readily available.... Maybe only a few came with the 30 instead of the 27 89. Mine has never gave me any problems...

Loose wires!

I found these loose wires in the trunk, maybe you know what these wires are for? I just bought an AMP on ebay as mine was not in the car when I bought it few weeks ago. Can you show me where it goes? (maybe a pic or forum thread somewhere?

Also where is the wire harness for the AMP? I'm sure the idiots that owned my car stashed it somewhere...

Thanks!!!

orange colored stiff wireplug with 2 color leds is the fiberoptics you should plug it in the large slothole in the cd-changer,
smaller plug is the powersocket plugs into cd-changer

on the passengers side trunk is the cdchanger

would have been great if this cd-changer would have fit in the glove compartment

did you get 202 820 27 89 or 202 820 31 89bose amp?
202 820 31 89 is a later version amp

An update, there was nothing wrong with my amp, I had it tested and it played perfect on every channel.

OK: first of all I thought the AMP was somewhere else... I ended up finding it and then ran up to cancel the "buy now" purchase I made! Thanks to the seller that reimbursed me immediately.

I found the original 202 820 27 89 DISCONNECTED! and this is the condition of the wires.

Thanks
