12' W204 C63 AMG coupe "T-Rex", 12' W451 Smart Fortwo Pulse (99' W202 C43 AMG + Ultima Can-Am sold)
Just dropped the front bumper this evening (5 minutes job ) and pulled out the two fog light units. One is an original (manufacturing stamp in 99'). Second one which was wet inside was obviously a newer one (02' stamp on the molding). Connectors corroded and wires very loose. One plug broken Decided to put the bumber back on without the lights (two big holes and another 5 minutes job also ). Monday will check out for spares.

Dismantled the two fog lights and cleaned and dried everything. Older fog light is a bit etched by sand and small gravel but I'll leave it like that for the moment. Put everything back together with a smear of silicone grease between glass and rubber surround. Have to attack the broken plug next week and some soldering of wires to get everything back in shape.

I think its like $240 or so... Congrats on the crystal fogs. I should be getting mine this week and installing them as soon as I get my HID kit. Did you ever look into the legality of the HID fogs in Switzerland??? What about how many C43's were imported to Switzerland? (Not trying to thread jack)

No I didn't check on the legality of the crystal for lights and I don't give a hoot.
Regarding statistics, yes, asked the importer who unfortunately didn't have the numbers for Switzerland. However got a reply this morning from MB Customer Services in Holland who gave me the total factory production figures for the C43 during 1998-2000:
Sedans: 3'085
Estates: 777

Cheers

Wink

Looks like good stuff
Just noticed though in one of the photos that they have the old type bulb plug with separate earth spade. The 02' manufactured stamp on my newer light has a more modern plug with the earth spade integrated in the plug. Will try to get a picture this week-end.
P.S. Got confirmation that my order was received and will be tracked. Tracker system starts when the goods leaves the seller. Am waiting for the word....

looks like I got had with the "old" stuff, oh well. I am going to be doing some MODS anyway so doesn't really matter to me as long as the lenses are CRYSTAL CLEAR. I would like to see some pics of what you are talking about.

Here are two pictures of the "new" plug. I assume it is because it was on the housing with 02' manufacturing tab...

Replaced and installed the new crystal fog lights. Kept the Hella back cover as it doesn't have the breather pipe in middle of the cover. Don't want more humidity inside than necessary. The lights already have a breather pipe on the outside of the housing. The fitting caused no major problems but I imagined that the fit in the bumber housing could be better. Tried trial fitting the old Hellas, same poor clearance as the new copies "Made in Taiwan". Got some paint remover and rubbed out the name

I didn't refit my stocks to see if there was a difference but I could of swore they fit better.... Not that the crystals are a terrible fit but there is a TINY gap. You can't even really see the gap I am just picky when it comes to my C43. Welcome to the crystal fog club buddy..... Now it's time to make them HID

* P.S. Obviously a true German fanatic, who else removes Taiwan stamps with paint remover...LOLOLLOL

I think we (C36 owners) are out of luck. There don't seem to be any crystal foglights available for our cars.

Correct, there are none for C36. I searched for while but didn't find any.
I was able to find an OEM set in Europe but they are very expensive.
To date, I haven't even wired them up yet.

As an aside, I also have a crystal clear set for C43 and it's just collecting dust
in my garage. I'll sell them to whoever needs them locally (SF Bay area only).

thanks.

That's so strange, as the C36 and C43 foglights seem to be very similar in shape. Have you actually tried fitting your C43 crystal foglights into your C36 bumper to see if they can somehow work?

Yes I did.

I'm sure some fabricator can make them fit, but that would mean butchering
the front bumper. Not worth it because C36 OEM front bumper covers are very expensive so it's not economically feasible.
