I want to refinish my wheels myself
So my front wheel got scratched up pretty good when they installed my new tires ![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
I want to respray them myself. Should I sand first??
i want to use same color but a bit lighter
This below is what I want. This is a magazine project i was working on, my car is in the picture. The wheels have been cleaned up and brightened in photoshop. I actually want them to look like that in person, they are not that bright atm
Can someone recomand some good paint that wont chip and some tips on how to do this properly

Hey PJ, if I remember correctly your in the Bay Area (not exactly sure where...) I understand you would like to do them yourself, and I myself am interested in hearing/learning how to appropriately do this. However if you decide to have a professional do them I know a guy who has redone all of my fathers exotic cars' wheels for relatively cheap but amazing lasting quality.
Let me know if you are interested, he is located in Burlingame.

If the paint is not too bad you can really add some great classy flash to them by simply polishing the lips. Really gives the rim a real sporty deep look. I did it to the set of mono II's I had on my 300E. Just jacked up the rear wheel while chocking up everything else and put her into drive while I scraped, sanded, sanded, then polished down to the bare aluminum. Only bad thing is you have to polish them periodically but it really looks slick going down the road, just enough bling to get attention, look spory, but not nearly enough to look gaudy.
If you are looking into painting them yourself, get it done professionally. Your wheels take a brutal beating spinning on the highway getting bombarded with salt and rocks ect. No spray or non-baked on finish will really give you the long term results you are looking for. Aluminum should be stripped, then dipped into an etching solution, etching primer, then base and clear for the best long term results. If there are just chips and dings you might be able to get some brilliant silver touch up paint from the dealer and fill the chips in and go over that with 800 grit and up ect till it is flush and polish it. Just some suggestions.

I'm in NY (Westchester county area). Looking for someone who can refinish my 2002 CLK55 2-piece wheels... They look great on the C43 but typical clear-coat failure and some small rash...
