C43 VS SL500 V12

So I raced my friends SL500 and to my surprise I was keeping up damn good

From a 40mph roll, I got the jump but he was never able to pass me. We went up to 100 id say, was pretty much dead even

From a 70mph roll he got the jump but I honestly couldn't see him pulling away that bad, maybe slightly. He had the top of coz its a convertible and also Im misfiring on three cylinders and I have a bad 02 sensor

Fast car, I wasn't expecting my car to be able to keep up.

SL500 or 600? Title says v12, but post says sl500?

If it's r230 SL500, the c43 should walk it. I ran my friend's off a 40 also, i was slowly walking the entire way through to 115mph. R129 is a different story, those might be quicker thanks to DOHC and a non-detuned engine... lol

Funny, I just raced a tricked out WRX *(intake, exhaust, suspension, and stupid gauges everywhere) pretty much the same scenario, from a 40 MPH roll in I was actually pulling on him all the way to 110 MPH before I decided he had enough! I'm betting from a stop light start he would probably beat me but I was WHOOPING his *** when we did the roll in. By the time we were @ 110MPH I was about 2.5 car lengths ahead (thanks AMG for all the torque ) My C43 surprises me every day and its pretty much stock (haven't added just DELETED )

* NOTE: This was NOT an STI, an STI would SMOKE our C43's

Stock WRX stats are pretty much the same as our C43's, here is a road and track test:

Road & Track May, 2001 issue
0-30 2.0 sec, 0-60 5.7 sec
1/4 mile-14.4 @ 95.4mph,
Braking 60-0 138ft

WRX STI stats:

Car and Driver
June 2003
STi:
0-60 4.6
0-100 12.4
0-130 24.5
1/4 mile 13.2@103mph
5mph-60mph 5.8; top speed 145
braking 70-0 166ft
Noise level (dBA) idle 45, 70mph 74

Our C43's are notorious for the stopping power, we smoke them there:
its 112 ft stopping distance from 60 mph is good enough to topple a Ferrari F355

hmm- why make fun of the wrx? who knows what was up with that car, but most tuned wrx (sti or not will beat up on a remotely stock c43 pretty good). Maybe they weren't even racing?

My non-sti (and quite ricey looking I might add- but we bought it that way as a repo) car made 286 awhp on dyno dynamics... good enough to beat a c43 by 15+ lengths in a quarter mile.

As a past bugeye owner I cry a little bit every time I see one of the new ones (what is the world coming to that subaru has to build that crap?).

Not making fun of a WRX... I LOVE THEM. And they were DEFINITELY racing, I do not like the RICEY gauges and such but the car is GREAT.

race cars have ricey gauges... I suppose you'd also hate my C43 (see picture). Personally, I prefer to not have my car blow up because I'm too stupid to know why I need to monitor things.

this isn't even worth arguing with...

I spent about $4k on my bugeye and it made 50hp/50tq more than a stock c43 on the same dyno throughout the powerband. I won't get into how much less it weighed or how inefficient our auto transmission is.

You are right that a stock c43 is slower than hell from 0-80 though

also, unless someone deliberately down-badged that car it's a v8

By ricey gauges I mean 4"+ gauge faces, I understand the need for gauges I had plenty in my '67 cutlass supreme but they were much smaller and I had them tucked away below the dash much like yours are instead of SHOWING them off rice style. Gauges are for you to see not the guy 100ft behind you

if the 800 lb number is correct...

the c43 still only has 75% the 'power' and weighs about 85% as much as the mystery car here

Your friend is very wrong. An sl500 never ever in this life existed with a 400hp V12. Only the SL600 had a V12. The SL60 had a 6.0L 389hp V8 according to the link below but there never existed a SL500 with a V12. Never! You can even go ask the guys in the SL threads.

I still have trouble figuring out how you could run even with him with all of the issues you had listed unless he has the same problems. I could see you winning a 0-60 battle. Could also be a 93-95 model, which apparently had the older 4 speed, which could be a disadvantage.

why would you rebadge a v12 to look like the base 500?
