my mechanic told me I have to change the antifreeze plastic canister when I change my antifreeze water!
is this true?
he also said there is a chemical residue that looks like a small soapbar or sumething at the bottom of this antifreeze container?
this chemical residue makes the antifreeze keep fresh over time?
I know when the antifreze is changed the system is flushed with water and then refilled with new antifreeze.
After refill then the cooling system is tested with high pressure to spot leaks.
so about the plastic container for the antifreeze mounted on the right side in the engine bay, does have to be changed?
my car is now on 94,000km = about 59000 miles?

ON SUSPENSION
If it's not showing signs of stress fracture and/or leaking I'd leave it be..
The additives in the AF are what keeps it fresh.. change it every 2 years if you want to keep everything Spot On Perfect.

As mentioned, change the AF regularly with a flush before filling again. Never heard that the plastic canister (expansion tank) has to be changed if it it not cracked or leaking. Changed the pressure cap on Friday as it didn't seal correctly and heated somewhat (high 90°C) and blew out water at the top of the Simplon pass. All is well again

hey buds.
I haven't changed my AF in 5 years!
my mechanic said it's not necessary?
my car is although a low mileage car 94,000km.
my mechanic said never to change the AF until I reach 200.00 km?
to get near this KM will take me long time since I don't drive the car everyday.
well I was planning on changing the AF soon so I thought I ask about the plastic container if it needs changing?
there are no leaks from the container!
when I opened the lid ONTOP of the AF container there is some kind of thin greasy layer on the surface water(when oil is on top of the water)
my AF still looks good and healthy bluish/green colored AF with no oil poluted!
