C43 ECU tuning

Btw- Did they give you HP gains on any of these mods? The header aren't the worst price I have ever head of and if its good gains, I might try it out with res delete and second cats out..... Might see a good gain and some great sound.... LSD could be worse too because its so damn hard to find one for these cars. Other than that I wouldn't spend another dime on this engine. 5.4 M113 sounding better every second and even better with me thinking about buying a 165k mile C43.... Simple power gain and headers would bold right up.
Yup... here is what I was quoted on parts and labor from my local kleeman dealer/installer
Here are the estimated prices for you;
ECU; $1095 + $45 labor + $90 shipping (next day both ways, about 3days downtime as ECU has to go to Kleemann USA in CO) = $1230
Headers; $1495 + ~$630 in labor = ~$2125
Cams; $2290 + ~$792 in labor = ~$3082
Supercharger; $8995 + ~$5000 labor/extra parts = ~$14,000 (please keep in mind that an ECU Flash should accompany the s/c kit so if you go with the ECU Flash to begin with, then add the s/c, you’d be looking at a second $1095 ECU Flash charge).
LSD; $945 + ~$540 in labor = ~$1485
For this kind of money I could drop a HUGE down payment on a C63 and blow the doors off 95% of the rides out there
I am planning on keeping my C43 pretty close to stock as far as the engine goes. My plan is to do the suspension (Vogtland springs + bilstein sports + kmac camber kit), headers, ECU tune, and LSD. After that I am going to focus on a new paint job and then shes done.

C32 will show gains because it is supercharged, so with a pulley and a tune it will yield nice gains. On a n/a motor like the C43, VERY minimal gains will be found with a ECU reprogram. You can throw an pulley on it, headers...then tune it thats about it.That will run you prob arnd 3k. For gains of possibly 25rwhp real power not flywheel,so to me thats just crazy. Lighten up the car that will make it more responsive. As you can see the gains don't justify the cost but it's your money. If were up to me I would sell the c43 and buy a W203 C55 OR A E55 and there you have it.

Well I am a little crazy so I wouldn't mind spending 3k on a car that I really for some crazy reason love! However, it would be a slow spend over the ten or so years I plan to own it. So I think 3k for really good sound and 25 at the wheel, that I can used every day for the next ten years, is worth it. I can't help it, im old school. After this car I will prob go back ever further to a 500e. Cuz im just a little crazy like that.

tuning your c43 on e85 is not going to get you 20% more power- unless you've first turbocharged it
the headers and chip tuning are too expensive for the gains

I don't know that an ecu would really do much of anything to this motor. I wonder if any of the company's making this claims offer a dyno proven money back warranty? I would do it then. No one seems to have purchased one and posted pre and post tune dynos.

I just read a thread where some guy said Jerry from Eurocharged tuned his ECU over the net so I decided to shoot Jerry an email and see if this is possible. Low and behold Jerry replies:
"Yes, the cables are in stock and is yours to keep. They cost $100 and I can ship tomorrow!
Want to move forward?
Jerry Thornton

WOOOOOOOOT WOOOOOOOOOOOOT Now I can have my ECU tuned in my living room. I know it's not a dyno tune but there's no way I could get a dyno tune form Eurocharged unless I wanted to take a long road trip that would cost MUCH more than $100. I'm sure it is cheaper to send in the ECU but then I have to be without my car for a couple days and I am always weary of sending such an important part of my car through the mail. Not to mention I am a glutton for instant gratification and it doesn't get more instant than plugging in my ECU at home and then plugging it back into my car. I am inquiring more about the cables and will keep you guys posted...

I sent Jerry another email asking if I needed some sort of special software, here is his reply:
"A windows based laptop with wireless Internet near the vehicle. I'll do the rest via remote control software!
Jerry Thornton
Eurocharged Performance"
I think I am going to move forward on this and swoop up the cable committing me to the Eurocharged ECU tune but I will need to check and see if my wireless will reach my car, I think it will. I'll get the cable, then a dyno run, then the tune, and another dyno run and post results. I will keep you guys posted.

can you pm me his contact info- It's too late for me to want to do a search. I have a way of calling tuners and quickly figuring out what they are all about.

Will you also ask Jerry if there's a large benift to dyno tune vs what your doing?! I keep thinking about it and if for $100 bucks your getting what I would pay $500 for minus some runs, then screw the dyno route and sign me up!

I just can't wait to hear your comments on the car's performance after a local hacker manages to intervene and fiddles with the data transfer during the ECU tuning

I will contact him tonight and find out what the difference in gains would be. Remember the tune is still $500 + $100 for the cable I believe.

you will leave the ecu in the car. the cable connects the obdii port to the laptop then jerry uses a website to control your laptop and downloads the ecu program from houston. takes about 10 minutes. you tell him what mods you have and he has files setup already.
austin the diff between the flash and dyno tunes are that jerry gets to see what your car is doing from the dyno files and tune from there.
i have done both dyno and remote and have to say jerry has just about every imaginable setup for my engine that has been done so retuning was a breeze and my afr readings were 11.8 at 170mph just by me telling him my mods. dont get any better than that

I would think there would be a benefit if you could get dyno time while it is being done. If Jerry could tune it, then make a run and send him the results with A/F. He could use that to tweak the tune and hopefully you get slightly better, personalized results.

no doubt if you had it right there on the dyno you would get a better tune. I didn't even think about getting the dyno and sending it to Jerry, GREAT idea

Just my .02 concerning dyno tuning.
On my CLK32k, I ran a Unichip piggy back ECU to allow tuning of the Kleemann SC, smaller pulley and larger injectors.
While it is nice to be able to tune your car on the dyno, the real world application is not so nice. That is, one you optimize the tune on the dyno, 99.9% of the time, it does not drive well on the street. I found the best way to tune is to start with the dyno tune then, move the entire setup into the car and go drive. This allows you to tweak the tune for drivability. This results in a drivable car but on the dyno it won't yield the most HP.
Something to keep in mind.
