Am I being naive, or did this just happen?!

Driving home from class today on ca280 and a rice rocket Honda S2000 (2006 year model) rolled up very quickly behind me... (numbers on the window, loud fancy exhaust)

I moved over and waved him on, and then very respectfully slotted in behind him as I was moving at a steady 80.

Traffic was minimal so I decided to speed up with him. I imagine we were doing something close to 90 when he stepped on it and moved into the lane on the right...so why not right haha

I followed pursuit and very quickly rolled up on him, eventually pulling two - to many more car lengths until I backed off and let him drive off. I wont mention the speeds as they were very unnecessary and I was looking no where else but in front of me.

He was easily trying to take off on me, and if i wasnt mistaken the little 36 actually murdered his a**

Not familiar with what the s2000 can do although I know it has a i4 (though I thought they were tourqy)

Did I really just spank this guy, or was he taking it easy? (though he didnt look like the type that would)

i think thats possible especially if the only thing he had was an exhaust upgrade. ive read kill stories that our 36's beat 350z's, i liked that and want to know if thats confirmed, anyone?
the s2000 has somewhere around 230-240 hp but only weighs about 2800 lbs
i think our cars could take that on but now im gonna be on the lookout for an s2000 to take down haha

His mama. Traded y0 mama in because she was squeaking.
You thought wrong.

They are jack for Torque.

140Ft lbs of torque and 240HP. At least that was the first year, haven't bothered to learn more as the years progressed.

eclectic assortment of cars
I have both an '01 S2000 and a '99 C43.

The earlier MY00 to 04 cars, chassis code AP1, have the 9000rpm redlining F20C engine. About 150 ft lbs, 240hp. The later 04+ cars, chassis code AP2 (with revised headlights, tail lights, front and rear bumpers, interiors and 'matured' suspension geometry, slightly slower rack) have the F22C engine, redlining at 8000rpm. Same torque, same power, but all moved earlier in the rev range.

The cars all typically make about 200rwhp, though maybe the F22C makes another 5-10hp depending who you talk to.

Whether it be F20C or F22C, the engine is so optimized, it's difficult to make lots of power without forced induction. Okay, you hear of guys slapping on header, exhaust and a tune with Apex'i or AEM EMS and making another 15-20rwhp, but that kind of gear will run you maybe $3000, more if you buy the best stuff. For that money, you can pick up a used supercharger kit or more than half way to a brand new kit, and make 100+ rwhp.

Also, the cars typically only weigh about 2700-2800 lbs, so it's a big advantage there. Compare to a C36 or a C43 which makes what, another 20-30 rwhp but weighs another 600-700 lbs? But then, literally, the C43 makes twice as much torque...

Other 'power' mods that are quite common are swapping final drives. Stock is 4.10, but you can get 4.44s, 4.56s, 4.77s. In my car, I actually have a combination of an AP2 gearbox (with revised ratios) and 4.44 gears. Very tight ratios, keeping the motor in the sweet spot when 'on it'. Clearly, depending on what gearing is in the car, it will affect acceleration and top speed. But - it's impossible to tell what gears are in the car without driving the car or opening up the diff.

Add some corners though, and the AMG wouldn't see which way the S2000 went...which is why I'm quite happy having both, they are very different in character. One does speed with brute force, the other one does speed like a scalpel. My next S2000 mod will be a supercharger kit though.

Anyway, some info...

questioning the kill stories involving the C36 vs 350Z..... I just raced one the other day up to 110 MPH and couldn't shake it. The guy pulled up next to me and told me he thought I was one of those clowns that puts and AMG badge on his car but he quickly realized that was not the case when I gunned it. I asked if he was stock and he said he was. The 350Z is pretty quick, 0-60 in about 5.5 seconds with a 14 second 1/4 mile so I fail to see how a C36 could beat a 350Z but then again I nosed out a 335I

I would imagine a c43 could take a 350z....would be to much to say it could "walk all over it"

Yes this s2000 very much so looked the part of being fast (which is why I ask this), sounded good driving behind it to

Correction!

I meant to say...

Would it be to much to say a 43 could walk all over it?

I was thinking the same thing but this is not the case.... trust me I TRIED. Look up the stats, the 350Z is quicker 0-60 AND 1/4 mile times. Again I think the only reason that I stayed ahead is he had a manual tranny and I don't believe he was a very good driver.

well cross off hyundai genesis as a contender. it was the 2 liter turbo model and i flat out murdered it on a 25-110 run. so much so that i could hold off let him catch up and then gun it and be gone!
not sure about the 3 liter but im almost positive i could take it.

as for the 350z, i am just being optimistic, i will have to be on the lookout to confirm
