There is a C36 for sale in my neck of the woods and it looks like a gem. If I had the money I would buy it just to add it to the AMG stables that I am building. 128k on the odometer and they are asking $5300 which mean they would probably take $5,000 or less. They have it posted on craigslist check it out.....

I would love to have the 55 N/A swap in my C43 but I just couldn't remove the heart of my baby. Thats why I am going to buy the E55 N/A.... I don't know much about the Kompressor's but I do know S/C's are HIGH maintenance.

I did not know that Kompressors are high maintenance? My 2000 C230 Kompressor Sport is still doing great so far... 
Also, I heard that pre-2000 AMG's (C36 & C43) are not Tiptronic? How true?

As far as 1998 and 1999 C43's trannys go they have gate shifters the RARE 2000 C43 (only 25 made) have the tip tronic

This is the one i got:
167k miles, clean title, works great, while cold you can feel the transmission shifting, after it's warmed up all is smooth, good power on the engine and no weird noises
i started the check on it two days ago and needs: tires, shocks, tie rod ends, maybe some bushings, a gooood interior cleaning and some headliner work; also it shows some leaks which i will identify after a good engine/transmission cleanup
so far i'm happy with it... being my 4th benz...

If you have no idea when a decent service was last done, I would recommend an engine oil and filter change, transmission flush and filter, rear diff oil change, brake fluid change, air filter change. You can also throw in some new plugs, check the rotors and pads, etc. + the other stuff you have already identified
