i dunno abt that, my car remaibs at 85 aslong as its not being pushed very hard, push it on hot days and it will hit 90, push it with ac on and it will go above 90 slightly, there is not car that i know or have tried that doesn't go from 83 ato 95 and back. its just that Jap cars and BMWs dont show on the guage that emp is moving, go over 95 and then u see it move. i have 5 mercs at home and all 5 behave the same way.

for the record My AMG has had a full cooling system refreshing. New rad, fans, front fan and clutch, water pump, Head gasket, temp sesn, and hoses.

True that. On a BMW if you see the temp gauge moving around while drving it means air in the cooling system or a blown head gasket. If it's an m20 it's the latter usually.

Seen it a million times.

gonna have to go with jay on that.

on a cool foggy summer day in san francisco, it'll be barely above 80... as u said, 85. head across the bay inland where it's 90+, and the temp will go reach close to 100. been like that since we picked up the car in 96. that, and the two fans go crazy like turbines in a jet

This is like "feel good legislation"..if some of you have a car that
fluctuates/increase (by gauge/cluster) n consider it "normal' fine
with me, now if car is pushed to the LIMITS then there is a "time
reaction" between the colling system and the gauge = fluctuation

In normal to aggressive driving no veh. properly functioning, will
fluctuate at gauge, if temp increase with speed/ac somenthing is not
up to code

probably some of you live in a cold climate/not sea level etc and what
you see is a car going to optima temp (normal) when pushed hard (
lack of oxigen..or viceversa)

I dirve a half dozen cars every week down in the tropics and temps are
death on all day long..including c36.

Peace on flat earth

Mine did get a pretty hard test, when the brake pedal wasn't on the floor, the gas pedal was. Not much in between, two days of this and it went great.

So your car is operating NORMAL..now when needle goes up n down: is the cool system failing or power train related?..that's the 64 thou.dollar Q.

Mostly is cool system working on the edge (start a trip in Alaska n when you get to Florida the gauge is in the same spot, why? cause the cooling system is so ample it compensate for the differences in outisde temp/loads etc)

Could be a partially clog catalic/exhaust.

For the heavy stuff I don't want to guess

(people want a race engine in a luxury package for 12% of the original value then apply their ford taurus experience to it = delete stuff that is noisy or don't understand why is there..AKA stupid german engineers)

1) car still has dual electric fans- they work great.
2) with fan clutch still in use on the track the car would come close to overheating.
