The gear ratio on a diesel transmission is not going to be appropriate for a gasoline engine. The diesel probably hits red line at around 4000 Rotations Per Minute where as the gasoline engine is around 6500 Rotations Per Minute. You'd have to redo something in the transmission or have some kind of crazy rear end ratio.
However, you've nailed everything else on the head, so I have faith you'll figure it out.

If you read through my post, it makes a very valid point. Rather than playing fan boy, I prefer to have a conversation about the technical aspects of such an undertaking.
