Quick question - EASY!

On the C43, what HID bulbs are used and are they the same bulb type as the fog lights?

I'm not able to look at the moment so figured I'd ask before I order bulbs.

Thanks!

socket for xenons is D2R not R2D2
I think they were about 55 watts
fog uses different bulbs

If I remember right, the fogs are an H1 bulb.

The HIDs are a D2R, but I believe the D2S will also fit, as it's supposedly a 'universal' type bulb that will suit D2R or D2C connectors. The difference is just the location of some notches.

Correct.... fogs are H1 and non HID headlights are H7 I believe, just incase you are converting to HID headlights.

I was wanting to move the stock ballasts down to the fogs and use another kit I have for the driving lights...but also wanted to make sure that all 4 lights matched in color output. Right now, I have two slim ballast 55w kits with H1 6000k bulbs. (from the M3) I wanted to go to 8000k due to annoying people on the road before because of how bright they were/are...just haven't looked at the stock HID setup in the headlight housing yet cause of the supercharger taking up a lot of space making it a biotch to get to. I should be fine with getting 8000k H1 and D2R bulbs...

Anyone know if the fogs have to be altered/trimmed to fit the longer HID bulbs?

Added info: Fogs = H1; Non HID Low Beam = H7; Non HID High Beam = H1
Total of 3 separate bulbs

Stock HIDs are 35w. The 55w upgrade is very common. However, the car I just purchased had those cheap china made slim 55w ballasts and some time I have to turn light on three or four time before both with pop on! And the yellow HIDs the guy had in the fogs are already burnt out... So I need to find a good set of 4300k's! To make a long story longer- Spend the extra cash and buy some good German made HIDs.

I never had such a problem, it just popped in. Install was cake. If you search my 'started tear down for paint' thread, I think I showed how I did everything. I've had the HID kit in my fogs since June, and not one problem since.

I installed a 35W H1 HID kit in my fog lights (8k) with no mods except having to drill a hole in the bottom of the foglight housing to accept the wiring from the HID ballast. I would suggest 35W as I have been told 55W will get too hot and melt the housing. It was a piece of cake. Hardest part is mounting the ballast somewhere safe.

Thanks guys! I'm just going to use the stock 35w ballast for the fogs and use one of the 55w kits I have for the driving lights. Already have the new bulbs on the way for the kits, glad to hear I don't need to do anything out of the norm for the fogs.
