Whats a C43 Worth? (looking to buy)
Hi all, I'm the owener of a 96 C280 with 247K miles on it, I do the maintenance myself. I also have a 02 E55 with 48K miles. I've recently come across a 99 C43 with 127K on it for sale locally. The asking price is $7,500. In the past I've owned a CLK430 which shares the engine of the C43 so I'm versed in the W202 and the 4.3L engine....what I dont know is what is the price for a good used 99 C43 and what should I look for when I go to look at it? -Thanks!

Sorry I can't help you with the price, as in my parts of the woods a good C43 will cost at least 2x or more. As you have a E55, may I suggest you transplant and swap both engines in both cars 
. Sell the E55 with a "....good car but slightly done on power Sir..." and enjoy an upgraded 43

Depending on how well it what was kept up at that mileage it could worth 1k more or 1k less... ie. Suspension parts, tranny rebuild, plugs, wires, ac compressor, power stearing, o2 sensors...... that's all add up to some major $$$

Maintenance is similar to the CLK. At 127K, recent maintenance (within the past 24 months) may have included a brake fluid flush, coolant, & fuel and air filters. Like Ronnie used to say "trust, but verify". In this case, receipts
I'd have a dealer perform a proper inspection.
After the inspection, you may want the dealer to tell you the condition of the flex discs, exhaust, shocks, whether it has ANY leaks (engine, transmission, diff), if the wheel bearings / tie rods / center link / ball joints have play, how much life the brakes have (and whether they are MB parts), the condition of the motor mounts, and the condition of the cooling system. The dealer should tell you about the HVAC, electrical, and bodywork without prompting.
From the seller, you’d want to know when the plugs were last changed, if the plug wires were done, when the steering gear bolts were last re-torqued (it’s more of a sign that the seller keeps the maintenance up to date), how old the brakes are (specifically the front rotors), when the O2 sensors were changed, when the steering damper was last changed (the dealer should catch this if it’s bad), and when the fuel filler nozzle seal in the filler neck was last checked.
