Thinking bout gettin a c36 or c43. But I have a few ????

Hey guys,

I recently sold my car and was looking to get a c36 or c43. I have a few questions about their reliability. I need something I can use daily with no major maintanence. How reliable are the amg cars? Would I be able to use them as a daily driver? I'm currently looking at a 96 c36 w/ 82k and a 98 c43 w/45k. I'm leaning towards the c43 because it has less miles and it's obsidian black. Also I felt that the c43 was a lot faster! for some reason the c36 I test drove felt very slow and sluggish. but I'm mainly concerned about maintanence as this will be my only car and need something reliable. Any tips advice stories would be helpful and appreciated!

I just bought my C43 a week ago so I can't speak about the reliability but I do have some tips.

Make sure to do both a CarFax Report and a Vehicle History(VMI) from the dealer. The VMI (Vehicle Master Inquiry) will show you all the options the car came with and all warranty work done at any dealer. Seeing the VMI will give you an idea how much trouble the car has caused.

I would also suggest buying a starmark'ed car since that will get you at least 1 year warranty and longer if you are willing to pay.

i think the only thing that really ever came up...considering there were roughly 1000 cars of each...is the auto tranny can need replacement more often than others, due to the aggressive computer programming....other than that...happy hunting

They are very dependable cars in my opinion. I would look to find a car with a relatively good service record. Look over the car for definite no-no's. Every used car will have it's probelms, but that is what is expected. What hurts s that b/c they are AMG cars, repair costs are high.

I havent had any problems with my car. Had it for a year so far with 71K miles.

so today, at around 23k miles...the fuel gauge is malfunctioning... goes up...drops down....goes up...drops down. seems like a lousy sensor connection. anyway...that's similar to the problem we fixed aorund 10k. problem of not driving the car enough to keep moisture out of the tank and to keep the gasoline from depositing crap at the bottom of the fuel tank. just to let u know

It's not our daily driver, but that doesn't mean it's not reliable. Have had it for some time now, and it's the nicest car I've ever owned. I would drive it more, but I'm afraid of door dings, and everything else. She's my baby. Never had ANY problems, except a similar gas gauge problem that has been explained prior to this post.
I would go for the C43, for obvious reasons, but if your budget "only" permits a C36, take it. They are GREAT machines, and you won't regret it!
