I have both an E36 M3 and a C36, and they sound nothing alike. Here's a link to a comparison of the two.

hmm I know the m3 sounds beautifull but I think the c36 also sounds very nice. Even with my stock exhaust. It sounds great under WOT but while cruising its a bit too quiet. I will sell my c36 if I cant get it better sounding. And then buy a euro m3 with the 3.0 engine

I just went to one of the hundred local exhaust shops here and asked him to take out the cat and fit same thicknes pipes as those already on the car. it cost me 30 usd here am sure its more over there. Man they r just regular steel pipes and i had them welded. havent had a single issue in 2 years.

E36 m3 has been tempting me for a while now. I might be switching soon. I love the vast amount of parts for it.

But i really want to keep saving for a w211 e55 :]

I've had my M3 since new and I will never sell it...it's just such a blast to drive. I used to be a product planner for an OEM, and as such have driven many different cars...but none have ever come close to giving me as much driving enjoyment as the M3. Just my 2 cents...

W211 E55 is a completely different animal. If you just want a ridiculously powerful luxury sedan to go fast in a straight line, sure, go for it...but if you want a perfectly balanced, canyon carving, confidence inspiring road racer, there is only one choice.

I hope my c36 will sound a bit more sporty with the gruppe m intake and the test pipes. If it doesnt I will have to sell it and buy a e36 m3 euro with simota intake and eisenmann exhaust. I love the facts that you can get really nice parts for a m3. I wish parts were this cheap for my c36. I hope that I havent bought the wrong car.

Hm yeah but the fact that I have two w202,s tells me different. My expectations about the c36 where just a bit to high, I like everything about this car except the sound. I am sure i will get it sounding just the way I want it to. Second option is selling it and buy a c43 I like both the c36 and c43 but I prefer the straight6 sound. The c36 is just to quiet when driving slow under WOT it is very nice.

Resonator delete + secondary delete will make it a little louder...

I heared that it sounds a little to raspy with a reso delete. I will just try the cat delete, and I will install a gruppe m. And if I still dont like it i can still remove the reso.

Mine sound really sweet and i like it not too loud when driving slow, but u can tell its got something extra under the bonnet still. i also love how it stays civil just up to 4000rpm and then the sound takes on a sweet rasp. its not as smooth a sound as the e46 M3 but still loud enough and good enough especially in a tunnel.

Thanks guys for all your help, I will go with the test pipes. And off course with the gruppe. I am sure it will sound very nice not to loud but sporty ,under hard driving. I will contact eisenmann if it still aint what I expect of it.

I'm in So Cal, and trust me, emissions laws are the strictest in the world here. Not only do they do the emmissions test, but they do a visual check, and anything aftermarket will send you back home with a no-pass.

The visual check is crazy to me.... In Oregon I could come in with no exhaust at all (not legal) and as long as when they plug into the OBDII port I pass the emissions I am good as there is no such thing as a "visual inspection".

When I went to pass DEQ with my C43 it took 2 minutes, they plugged into the OBDII port, the computer said I was good, paid $25, and left to go get my tags.

Here it's slightly tough. I need to have the car giving low co reading. Also we have a visual on lights and a mechanical check on suspension and such.

Hey guys thanks for all your help, I came up with another Q this week. I was thinking about contacting eisenmann for building me one. But than I came up with installing a w208 clk430 muffler. why? It also has a pipe diameter of 2.75inch and the w208 should have the same fitting spaces right? The 430 also has the same amount hp as the c36 so there shouldnt be a problem right? And the exhaust has a pretty good price for what it is.

thanks sounds very nice. i might go with just test pipes. What i also could do is buy an eisenmann muffler and a supersprint resonator. One thing is sure my car will sound nice thanks to all you guys input the grupppe m intake will complete the sound.

And here is the one with the windows Down, i think it sounds good, even better in real life than what the Iphone can capture.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8tcJ5R3KDM
When viewing the vid you can select it to be played in HD for better image and sound quality

But those old 4 speed auto boxes must be of the fastest shifting gearboxes around, i mean just listen to how quick the changes are! i have been in many of the new double clutch automated ones equiped on Audi and the new Mitsubishi X Evo and i would swear this is almost if not on par with them in upshifts.
