Have you guys looked at BMC filters? They run about $100 a piece for the C43. Be curious to see how the two compare as I am also leaning away from K&N and Green.

I did look at the BMC filters but I couldn't justify the price. You can get the AFE filters for around $130 vs $200 for the BMC. I can't imagine the BMC filters offering anything more than the AFE filters.

The AFE filters are great, haven't had a single issue with them since the install.

Awesome. Thanks. It's interesting though that the renntech is a bigger box, but the filters are the same size.

Same thing I had heard that made my shy away a little. Got too good a deal on the AFEs to turn down anyway

spacer dyno

so i read through the thread, great work documenting this btw. did you ever dyno the car with the phenolic spacers? or were you waiting for the headers to go on and test them together?

im deciding between a C43 and a C32 right now (i made a thread asking for opinions in the general forum), so im very curious as to how much power you can get from the C43s. i know it wont match the C32 with pulley upgrade and tune, but if you can get 30hp or so over stock at the wheels between the airbox, pulley, headers and tune i think the C43 would be plenty to have fun with.

this you can do the things that have been done on the c43 in this thread if that's enough power for you ( it should be).If that aint enought for you go insane get a supercharger on the 4.3. that still aint enough swap the engine with the 5.5 and supercharge this engine

you can get 400hp out of the c32 with ease by just pulley tune and headers.
but I would sure go for the c43, it sounds nicer feels a little more solid if you ask me, plus the c32 isn't really a reliable car. The safe way to do this is the c43. Just my two cents

yea definitely not looking to 'go insane' as you mentioned

as you say im sure the few mods discussed in this thread would be more than enough power to have fun with. it will be more power than any other car i have owned to this point.

I didn't dyno after the spacers but I am going to dyno before the headers so we will see what the spacers and the Renntech air box add.

As far as C32 vs C43 it really depends on what you are after. The C43 is rarer as there are about 2-3 times as many C32's in the U.S than C43's and I would venture to say (flame suit on) the build quality is better in the C43 as the C32 was made during the Chrysler years. I do think the C32 is a good car and is capable of making more power cheaper as it is already supercharged. The C43 has the V8 sound and the W202 body style which is why I bought the car, V8 + W202 body style + AMG = but that is just my personal opinion. If I was to get a W203 AMG it would definitely be the C55 as I like the body style better (W203 C55 has CLK front end, C32 doesn't) plus it has that wonderful AMG V8.

Go test drive each and you will figure out which one you want. One thing is for sure, you won't be disappointed behind the wheel of an AMG

yea im leaning towards the C43 at the moment, cant really test both because they are both not local to me at all, so i pretty much have to make a decision then go see it and just hope to not be disapointed, which from the sounds of it wont happen with either.

and yes the look and design of the C43 is what totally has me sold my GF doesn't exactly see it like it do, haha, but she supports my decision, thats all i can ask.

I was gonna get the BMC but didnt wanna kill the maf : )
BMC is top quality! no doubt! If youre not getting the afe dry filters, then BMC is the only choice!

My drive line is out of the vehicle currently so a dyno is out of the question Once I get it back I have to drop some coin on new front tires and then comes vacation (Reno, Vegas, and Arizona) the first week of August so it will have to be after that.

anxiously awaiting your post vacation dyno run 503

got my C43 this past weekend. Im having exhaust work done to delete the secondary cats and resonators tomorrow. They have a dyno at the shop so I want to have them run a baseline dyno before the exhaust work.
I also ordered the EVOsport pulley kit, so my plan is to go back and have them re-dyno the car after i have added the res/cat delete, pulley, and K&N air filters. I figure that will give a good idea of the power gains from the most basic upgrades that it seems everyone with a C43 is doing or looking to do.

Im curious to see what you get from the tune. As you stated im already putting 93 octane it in the car so if i can get 10 hp from tuning for it i will

New dyno

Hey guys,
i got my exhaust work done today and also had them dyno before and after, some notes:
1. it was on a mustang dyno and he said that it has a weather station built in that adjusts numbers to a typical temp and humidity level.
- the shop does primarily performance work on GM supercharged and turbo vehicles, they worked on my previous car, the guy in charge owns an E55 merc. took my car there because they do good exhaust work and have reasonable dyno prices.

2. they removed the secondary cats and resonator, i wasn't expecting huge gains but since i just go the car i figured id have them dyno it.

3. the first file are 2 pulls, before and after the exhaust work.
- 213hp 214lb/ft then 214 hp 214lb/ft
- these runs were only on 2nd gear, initially he thought it was only a 4 speed so thought he could get a good run out of 2nd, after he showed me i told him to do a run in 4th. So the power numbers are low on these but the gains are accurate.
- looks like i gained a couple hp across the whole powerband, maybe 4-5 in certain areas.
- one thing they noticed was on the 2nd run that the HP falls off from the baseline run at the very end, his best guess was that it might be from some KR near redline. said its a little odd that it crosses over at the end like that.
- also was a tad lean initially in this run, didnt show lean at all in 4th gear pull.

- 266hp, 242lb/ft power numbers were really good on this one , a little high compared to other dynos, but i dont know enought about dynos to determine the differences. at 6000rpm's the car was going 140mph, so he thought that at the high speed some multipliers may have started to get off a bit. in hindsight he would have liked to do 3rd gear pulls.

I have the pulleys on order and the guy at the shop thought that my car would benefit from a tune, though he couldnt see any timing data. so more than likely i will put the pulleys on and then get a tune maybe next spring.

Nice #'s seem a little high but whatever.

By the way many have reported that the pulleys are a waste of time on the N/A motors.

Your first numbers are low especially if the pulls were in 2nd gear. I did 2 pulls in second gear on a dynojet and hit 300+ RWHP. Your stock numbers should be around 230-240 HP in 4th gear but then again all that varies from dyno to dyno. The second numbers are CRAZY high! a stock W210 E55 puts down around 280-290 RWHP and there is no way you are getting close to that with just the res and cat delete. There must be something wrong with the dyno or with the high MPH that caused this.

As far as the Evosport pulleys, they are worth it. I gained 6 RWHP/9 RWTQ but the real value is in the quicker REV's. Nothing too crazy but definitely noticeable. If I had to do it all over again I definitely would.

I know the car does feel really powerful. I have a saturn aura XR that has 252 hp front wheel drive (crank), supposedly under 15sec 1/4 time, and my last car was a modded 3800 camaro that was a bit slower than the saturn, and the C43 definitely feels much faster than both cars.

I tried searching for 1/4 mile times on here and didnt find much, only found one guy who ran mid 15's , so id like to take it to the strip at some point and see what its running to verify if the car is really putting power down.

Depending on where you are a stock C43 should run about 14.4 sec 1/4 mile give or take a tenth or 2 depending on the DA and ambient temps.

Rational decisions have been getting in the way of modding . I am looking to buy a house so I am saving $$$$. I am planning on finishing what I started when I get my tax return around April.

I have the Kleemann headers just sitting in the box waiting to be installed, I have yet to have Eurocharged tune my vehicle as I am waiting for the headers to be installed.

I'm sad just thinking about it
