Help! Source for electronic throttle?

Hey guys,

I am trying to help a friend out in South America. The electronic throttle in his car has failed and he needs a replacement.

They are available new from the dealer, but cost $3,000!!

Anyone have any ideas where I could source a used or remanufactured replacement? Is the part the same as other W202 or other body cars?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Just had to replace mine. Unfortunately, they are AMG specific because the bore is larger than the normal C280 one. This one cost me about $1,280 USD from the dealer, brand new. Depending on what's wrong with his, he may be able to have someone rebuild it, otherwise there aren't really any other options other than buying new. He could get extremely lucky in finding a rebuilt C36, but that's extremely un-likely. He may just have to find a new or rebuilt C280 one, though that may not work, or he may have to have some one reprogram the ECU to take into account the lesser airflow, so in turn probably not worth it. I have my old one laying around that I was going to look at and consider rebuilding it, but I need to pick up a special bit to even open the casing first.

Thanks nd4spd. That's what I feared.
What dealer did you get it from?

Ebay.

Also they are NOT AMG specific. I know for a fact the 1996 isn't. use EPC startek net to prove it to yourself.

Lastly, unless your potentiometers are fried from bad wiring, rebuilding these throttle bodies is very simple. I rebuilt mine and it took a few hours at night.
