ASR question
Has anyone ever noticed when driving with the ASR on (yellow light OFF) and you drive over a man-hole or a bump (or anything that's not flush with the road) you feel the back end of the car jolt (as if the rear was loose)? I noticed it all the time. While the shake occurs the ASR light flashes as well. It is a very loose feeling. But when I turn off the ASR, no shake.
Anyone experience that? Is there a malfunctions here?

i get that all the time
because there's this one light in my neighborhood
that's on an incline so it's uphill and when you make a right
it's sudden decline while turning the light comes on and you feel the jerk or sometimes just feel the brakes being applied
asr thinks i'm losing traction and find it too intrusive in that case

I think you'll lose traction on things like manhole covers esp. in the wet, I know I do. I really notice it on joins where bridges meet the road. Around here a lot of those joins are fairly wide steel plates and if it's wet and you're accelerating I def get wheelspin, at faster speeds it doesn't last very long like a fraction of a second but enough to make that light give me a wink.

Not entirely sure how the system works but I guess it's something to do with the ABS. Just a thought.. have you had any work done recently in the wheel/brake area?
Good luck cuz the less that light comes on the better

Well..I don't have ASR. No little yellow triangle in the instrument cluster. No ASR turn off button. I do leave alot of tire marks
I have no idea..I bought the last C36 on the lot so I had no choice of options on the car.
Is not having ASR a good thing? (Well not good cause I live in TO where it snows)

no choice on options? yes...but it's the other way around...the car was loaded with every single option...who really needs a weatherband about the sea? it's not likely u'd go fishing in one of these cars...oh well. and that old 90's car cell phone...never used it either...

In North America the C36 had ASR as optional in 1995. I feel the car is better without it, as the ASR was a serious impediment to fun. Even "off" I found the ASR on the C36 pretty much useless. It wasn't much benefit in the snow/rain (drive properly with the right tires) but killed the car when you really wanted the back tires loose.
If you have a 1997 C36 without ASR or ESP, KEEP IT. Could be a special build order that wasn't taken and ended up on the showroom floor. With the 722.6 tranny and NO electronic nanny, that would be one great car.

Yeah, mine is a 1997 with no ASR no ESP no nothing but a moonroof as an option. Yes and It was sitting in the showroom floor.
Hmm...I wonder how many people out there have a 1997 C36 with no ASR like me?
BTW: no ASR = Sucks a$$ in snow!

ASR doesn't help that much in the snow. Our C36 had ASR, and it didn't make any difference. The only way to go is with premium snow tires.
In some deep wet snow, or going up an icy hill, ASR can make you stuck. One day in freezing rain, our E300 wouldn't move thanks to the ASR/ESP program. My wife was "stuck" on level ground.
No matter how much electonic intervention is on board, it's still tires on ice/snow.

Ohh ok kewl..it hough ASR would help...stupid advertising hehehe
I have a second set of 17 inche AMG mono II's with 17 inche michelin snow tires to help with the winter.
Makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE in the snow.

I have the ASR option on my 95 C36 and find it quite useful when I'm a little heavy footed in the rain - I agree about it being an impediment in the snow though...only way to go is get snow tires and turn the damn ASR off. Also for those who drag race, remember to shut your ASR off before trying to do a burnout...

If the ASR off doesn't disable the whole traction control system, how did I manage to do a 180 in a wet parking lot?
Was your GTG pics taken at High Park pokerFACE?
