Thumbs up 1995 c36- just bought it. Tranny a bit weird

160k. My dad had a 95 brand new... I know this car well. Tranny is not shifting into 4th without me expressly lifting off. It wont shift in third at redline either.... This sucks. I do have a cel but havent checked it because my buddies $13000 snap on modis wont recognize c36. Lol.... I came from porsche nightmare to benz nightmare....lol

I dont want to build a trans. I see one on ebay but who the hell knows what it is. Appreciate any good help.

Get a tranny filter and oil change first and see what happens. Check also the oil pan for metal filings and such like.

Again, just like the engine wiring harness, the throttle body AND the transmission wiring harness are both going to be shot.

You have to rebuild all there, which is surprisingly easy to do.

cool. SO I will remove them..... My maf plug was wasted in a small burn...and I don't know the order of the wires to the pins on the maf/ that's the only place I forsee trouble. Otherwise, solder up new wires and insulate/ package well and should be good. worst harness i've ever seen! been playing with cars a while- had lots of different ones.

Agreed, do not hear too many issues w/ the 4spd trans. Typically the upper harness goes bad due to engine heat but this could be due to a bad trans harness. I have tried many expensive code readers that do not work on my 95. Sears has one for $50 that works great, Actron model# 9125, car has to be running for it to work.

Please post when you found out what the culprit was, GL.
