Stretched tires = less contact patch which defeats the whole performance purpose of going wide
now if you are going for a certain look then yes, go ahead and stretch, but if you are looking for more traction, do not stretch

Performance effects of stretching tire are twofold:
- wheels are larger than necessary: more rotating unspring weight
- simulation of stiffer sidewalls

Don't listen to him. Contact patch is a function of PSI, not tire dimensions.
Tire dimension changes at a constant PSI do form a different contact patch shape, but not area. The shape has negligible performance benefits.

Contact patch is a function of PSI, not tire dimensions = So a 6" tire can have the same contact patch as a 12" tire simply by adjusting PSI?? If not then tire dimensions would play a role in the size of a contact patch
I understand that less PSI would give you more contact patch but there is a limit due to the fact that you can only run yur PSI so low before seperating plys and getting bubbles in the side wall or even worse damaging a rim.
I am not an expert on stretched tires but I would imagine that you can't go as low in regard to PSI due to possibly losing the bead and getting a flat, I could be wrong...

You can actually get a pretty good estimate of the weight of a vehicle if you measure the contact patch and the inflation pressure. Just pounds/square inch time square inches leaves you with pounds. However, tire width does obviously play a role in handling.
