So I just saw a hyundai genesis r spec on TV, wow this junk has 429HP? and takes a C43 AMG down? I feel bad for stock C43 owners. This is crazy.

OK so it probably blows the doors off a 43, but how long can you do it without blowing some mechanical component I trust solid Deutschland engineering better Just my 2 cents worth

Ahh man!!, you talking about C43 97-00 which is almost fastest 4 doors sedan in the world in that time,, in generaly, comparing between
11-12 years is NOT fair,, speedy things is one of the important in out cars, but NOT everything, we need to raise our impression NOT to
disappoint us, we need to feel & drive a real car NOT a child toys for a few months....!!

Genesis R is far from cheap ($50K sticker) and Hyundai is wating to make the auto world especially the Germans and Japanese, sit-up and pay attention. They are succeeding, people used to scoff at their cars in the '80s and '90s, not anymore, they are progressing leaps and bounds.
That 429hp all aluminum V8 is a worthy contender in the market sector.

Yikes, $50k for a Hyundai?
Agreed though that Hyundai is stepping up their game, I look at Hyundais differently now with the Genesis coupe and sedan and I haven't even seen the Equus yet.....there was a time when Honda and Toyota were thought of in the same way, Hyundai isn't there.....yet
But yes, you really can't compare a car that was designed well over 10 yrs ago to a car that hasn't even been released, apples and oranges...

I understand the BASE 991 Carrera 2 runs the Nurburgring in a time comparable to the 997 GT3RS. How's that for evolution?

.....all that and a 10yr / 100k powertrain warranty.

I read on clublexus that genesis 5.0 does 4.8 sec 0-60 and traps 107mph 1/4 mi. It's no slouch. With price of base e350 I'd seriously consider one over e350 or base 5-series.

1999 C43 AMG
after two of my sisters hyundai's front bumpers fell off and the third was junked under the "lemon law" in 2001 I would never touch a hyundai. I'll buy Merc's and enjoy the car for as long as I want to have it knowing it was built to last - not be disposable.

You make it sound like a MB has never been junked under a lemon law.And as far as quality, how about the members here that get stranded when the airmatic suspensions give out.

Reason being, MB has put out plenty of lemons, dogs, recalls, and have critical points of failure such as airmatic and SBC. There are absolute horror stories of brand new 100K+ MB's failing the first month, lemons, burnt up cars, hell even dealerships threatening customers lives for not taking delivery of a car with defects or issues brand new. Let's be real, MB put out a huge amount of junkers during the marriage made in hell period of MB/Chrysler circa 1999-2004.
Don't get me wrong, I love my MB's that I have but at the same time we all must face reality. My R500 airmatic pump blew out at 20K miles, under warranty thank goodness for an example.
The Hyundai's of 2001 are not the same as the ones of late at all. Technology, quality, R&D are totally different.
+1, you are right. People have to be objective and realistic. MB has a lot of bullet holes in the rep, it is what it is, some people get so defensive and caught up on stuff rather than taking another POV.

Also if I was told I could be given a Spec R or a mint C43, I'd take the C43. Hyundai does nothing for me.

Hyundai has made strides as has many auto companies when it comes to performance.Funny thing is on the highway where it matters the most our 43 will pull almost any car out there in that price range. I've pulled wrx,evo,330i,lexus is,g8 v6,charger r/t,GENISIS V6,ETC.Our cars are beasts from 70-140.When i want to spank something in the 0-60 or 1/4 mile i bring this out....http://photobucket.com/90GTRESTORATION. Just posted up pics of my 43 in our pic forum. Thanks!

According to an article I read the other day, many Hyundai owners are also Black Card holders. That should say something.

Black Card? For those who are over on the other side of the pond, what is that? Gold card credit cards, that I know, but....

And I continue to do so. I would gladly rather pay 50k for a used S550 or 30k for a used E550 than fork that kind of cash on a that car.
30K for a used E550 ! wow. w211-212 550's have to be some of the most maintenance intensive MB's ever. I don't know too many happy long term owners.
Also if I was told I could be given a Spec R or a mint C43, I'd take the C43. Hyundai does nothing for me.

I enjoyed my C36 when I owned it, and my good friend had a rare 2000 C43 which I had a lot of seat time with. Both good cars, but are almost antiques compared to a Genesis Coupe...let alone a SpecR.
I drop by this board once in a while just to see where the level of interest for the early AMG's are , good to see there's still a following...but sometimes I read things that make me scratch my head.
Last Spring I got a chance to drive a tuned 09 Genesis Coupe ( turbo not V6 )... and it was nothing short of spectacular....regardless of where it was made.
Hyundai will be in Formula One sooner than later...and they are going to play hardball.
