I see your point, but consider this...people may associate the low price with a, "what's wrong with the car???" attitude. I followed the link you provided and every other, "regular" C280 or such was priced higher then an AMG?!?! That doesn't follow logic.
Again, take a look at Wayne's Volvo 'for sale' ad. Your pictures should be clear and crisp like his. Your photos are grainy and the white balance looks off. Are you using a camera-fone?!?! Your car has a beautiful tuxedo interior, that was one of the selling points when I bought mine.
Nothing looks crappier (in my opinion) then a dirty, crusty, black carpet (because it shows every speck of dirt/dust), on a supposedly luxury sport-sedan. It's a friggin' Mercedes Benz! Clean it before you show it off!
Personally, I would do all of the above and list it at a slightly higher price in the Autotrader Online & Craigslist in Cali. (LA, Orange County, San Diego, San Fran). Put together a short video doing a walk-around the car with it running and post it on youtube. Any cell fone with a video capture can do this. Better yet, use a digital camera.
Let prospective buyers know that you have the ability/ means to ship the car to the west (or east) coast. You'd be surprised how relatively inexpensive it is to ship a car. I drove my C43 1600 miles from LA to Missouri and it took 4-5 tanks of gas and $125 in ****ty motels.
BTW, I flew to AZ to buy my car. These aren't Camrys or Taurus's, they appeal to a select audience. I'm not knocking on where you reside, but your auto is going to have more appeal on either coast. You need to cast a wider net.
Finally, I feel that enthusiast sites are not always the best place to post your car for sale. That is just my humble opinion. We know where to look and find these cars, we already own them! We are here to share the comraderie and knowledge of owning such a vehicle.

A clean car, in good working order with documentation, priced in the middle of the various "Book" estimates and properly presented online will sell. Good luck!

hhhhhhhhhhhmmm Ok I will take a stab at this one... Maybe try getting a camera that can focus better..... I like the interior but why does the car look like its about two inches two high off the ground? I assume that is stock. If it were lowered I would be a player.....

Much better with the painted hood! Something I learned from flipping houses apply's to autos as well....As a general rule of thumb, higher-end buyers don't want to, "fix things up" or do touch-up work, they want things turn-key and ready to go.
I would imagine this mind-set applies to potential buyers of AMG's! Now, let's see those new (crisp) pics!

As well maintained as your car is, the milage at 163K is a bit scary even for a AMG. I bought my 99 one year old with 10K on the clock CPO for $45K. I sold it 5 years later with 55K on the clock for $25k. The guy that bought it sold it 4 years later with 95K on the clock for $15K.

Your well maintained 43 with 165k on the clock should be a ''weekend''/''sunny day'' vehicle..people looking at these cars would be foolish to use it as a d.d. with that kind of mileage on the clock. This is a special interest type of car with attraction one who knows about it and desires one as a second car.Thats what i did when I purchased mine with 130k on the clock.Mine is mint and I use it about 3k miles a year.It is my 3rd car actually.I would NEVER buy a 12yr old benz with 135k plus and drive it everyday...just makes no sense.I think that is why your having diffuculty garnering interest. It is a good 2nd or 3rd car...if you have 5-6k to throw around on that type of vehicle. It seems that most here have a second vehicle to drive thus this purchase is more a luxury..It will sell just be patient.

A couple more thoughts for you... The ebay add is headed by that grainy picture which doesn't show the freshly painted hood. Move that new picture to the header. The 2 toned interior in these cars is a highlight of the car, and I'd suggest taking better interior pictures. And while it's nice to note that you've done some major maintenance items on the car, listing them out with the price tag for each one just gives notice that this car has been, and will be, expensive to maintain. I think it scares people away more than saying, all the expensive stuff is already done. Finally, if you say you don't even know if you're the third or fourth owner, it tells people that you're really not that familiar with the history of the car. Just leave it out of the ad. Unless you really want to dump it for any price, I'd let this listing run out and try again with a better ad.
