E55 ENGINE GOING IN MY 2000 43
Well I thought about this for sometime and I finally pulled the trigger,
I have both cars and currently use the E55 for as my daily driver and all necessaries has been done to the 55 engine and, also the C43, plugs, maf, water pump, rocker cover gaskets engine mounts and crank sensor as per mileage advice.
Now that all the things has been done and both cars are running properly and I have no intentions of getting rid of the C43 it is really the only thing I've been wanting to do.
I finally pulled the trigger and called Charlie At Mcnally Auto who is the only I would feel comfortable to do such a job.
C43 will be dropped off Tuesday Dec 13 , At the time of the swap the diff will be sent to Unitrac for upgrade.

Great to hear and keep us posted with info and pictures I hope the swap goes through with no problems and not like Saaboteur experienced recently...

Both cars have the same transmission they are both tip.
C43 is a toy ,The E55 I bought it just for the engine rather than buying a used engine with nightmares I will use the E55 for weekends and some evenings in winter or a 5th car, If all goes well I sell it real cheap to someone who needs a daily driver everything on the E55 is good except for the few rust issues. Thanks to Canadian winters.
C43 was dropped off and the shop should be ready for the E55 next week sometime.
Hey I know this C43 is rear but who needs all the power from the E55 in winter I think it would be so nice to have a real special C43 . For all the mods I have already this is all its missing.
Lets face it this car won't be any real special collector at least not in my lifetime.
I will also add I do love driving the E55 so much power and so smooth.

Put some headers on the E55 M113, and add a tune. Will really wake it up. Swap seems awesome.
BTW, i would buy an E55 with a C43 on the super cheap. Would make a wierd daily lol.

Well after what the last member went through I decided not to do this on my own, so I took it to one of the best shops I know and trust to do such a job. It did hurt to see my car pulled apart but it was nice to see it done so orderly and clean.
I'll say one thing after driving this E55 for the past month I never thought it was this quick I still can't figure out why it feel so much faster than the C43. I can't imagine what this thing will feel like when its all done.
Grant Me patience Lord But HURRY!!!!!!

While I did drive a few other normal c43s, it was kinda hard to notice the difference. I think that's because my car still runs on a stock ecu tune.
I think the 55 tranny is just designed to take more of a beating
#20
Well I did not discuss the tranny with my mechanic I'll just leave it up to them and see how long it last and then I'll do a rebuild, but just better.
At this point I just want to get everything running properly and do a dyno and ecu tune.
The tranny in the 2000 C43 is out of the Sl55 so it should be good.

Well Here We Go,
Got some good info today... I decided to drop by The shop to see the progress on the cars and ended up spending sometime there Finally met with the Guy that is working on my car and after speaking with him for a while he informed me that all he did before working at his current job he use to mainly work on swapping engines and superchargers building high performance engines and gearboxes for racing, I was so happy to hear that... Now that I know the right guy is working on my cars I was even more at peace.
For all of you who have been thinking about comparing the E55 and C43 well,it seems no one ever to have done a side by side comparison on both cars and there are quite a few..., All the guys who did the swap before much props to you on making this work, but after today I am so happy I decided to do this the way that I am not only will it give me the assurance but it will also help anyone who had many questions about this .
So here is what we discovered.
1. The water inlet that many says has to be installed on the back of the head because it does not come on the 5.4 engine well in the 2001 E55 it is there and no modifications has to be made I guess it all depends on which engine you get .
2. TRANSMISSIONS ARE DIFFERENT Yes believe it or not transmissions in the E55 is more heavy duty yolks are different C43 has 6 bolts and E55 has 8bolts they are going to install the E55 transmission into the C43, Both drive shafts are going to be pulled to compare length but even that is bigger.
The rear end will be pulled and sent to Unitrax. No rush on that,.... that will be done 2nd week of January we're just waiting to pull both drive shafts and compare those and make necessary changes but even the yolk on the rear of the drive shat going into the rear end is different ,..even that is bigger.
3. Engine mounts are different.
4. Radiator is different, this will be sorted out later if the temp is running higher only then I'll order a bigger rad.
5.There is a vacuum line at the back of the engine, while both engines does have it they are in different locations that is minor just reroute.
6. By now if not we all know that the exhaust manifolds are different that has to be changed.
7. Both harness wil be swapped their connection going int the computer is different.
These are all the things they found this far the E55 engine was being pulled today and a full comparison will done next week because I want to install all the rusty parts from the E55 exterior back to the C43 engine anything that is cosmetically out of place the reason for this is because the C43 came from Atlanta and there is no rust or oxidation everything is shiny and new , the E55 however had seen quite a few winters and I hate the way things look even the mechanic said what ever looks old will be swapped or ordered.
I have always wanted to do this and was thinking back then it would be so nice to get an E55 and do a swap side by side well that day has come I have no regrets.

Thanks for the update
Nice to hear that the 01' 55 has the water outlet on the back of the head.
The transmission shaft of the 55' has to be longer as the E is a different car. Same thing goes for the radiator. Exhaust manifolds is a know thing which need to be changed from the 43' to the 55'. Harness also and I hope that works out, as I still think that Saaboteur's problem must have come from that piece of material.

*1) The Engine mount are the same, the only different with a "2" holes that holds the mounts to the screen plate, you can use a both
mounts # "202 240 29/49 17", just switch the screen plate(as your wish).........
*2) I didn’t see any difference between "722.631 C43" & "722.625/636 E55" gearbox, i road the AMG put 722.624 from "129.068 SL500" to
there W202 C55, but i don’t know until now what’s the advantage..!?!, if you notice any difference pls. mention it........
*3) About the yolks, it depend of the modle, some models uses "3" legs & some uses "4" legs, with optional with "100mm or 110mm" flange,
6 bolts for "3" legs & 8 bolts for "4" legs with "2" kinds of flexible joint discs, if you go forward with this subject, you well have to change the
gearbox flange & a diff. flange as well, this is NOT important to do it, i recommend to keep & use the C43 drive shaft & flexible joint
discs............
*4) I gree with you, the E55 Exhaust manifold must to be change, cause the E55 is little longer than a C43 one, depend of the body chassis
style & spes, C43 & CLK430 & CLK55 uses the same Exhaust manifolds...........
*5) I think the Radiator is enough for cooling,, when AMG done a few W202 C55 in 1999, they kept the cooling system as it is, not that
necessary to upgrade it(that’s your choice)..........
*6) Harness in not that big deal, "2" kind of connctors you well see,, just switch them..........
*7) MB change the way & place of the water inlet & vacuum lines, this is about a spes. of early & late models..........

Hey Zayed Thanks
Yes I was just thinking the same thing about the water inlet is not that the E55 does not have it....Is the 2000 C43 that was made different I'll take some pictures next time I go to the shop. Ok for the shafts they both are two piece and both have flex disc but for some reason the E55 size seem so much bigger.....again I'll be able to compare when that also comes out.
