95 C36 You Won't Believe this!

My poor C36. I heard some creaking coming from the front end a few weeks back and ignored it. then the left wheel started hitting the inner rear fender well when braking. Put it on the lift today and found the rear lower control arm mounts were torn off the car! and the right side was starting to do the same! I looked around and can't find any other reports.

Wow, you are lucky you caught this before something serious happened. How could this of happened? Are you lowered? Do you have low profile tires?

Oh man, now you have me worried. I've been hearing some creaking coming from my rear end lately, but I have been dismissing it as simply needing to replace the control arm bushings. Now you have me second-guessing myself.

I'll take a quick peek under the car tomorrow before I leave the house.

Don't worry haven't seen this on a c43, have seen it on a c36 once Maybe the heaby m104 engine has something to do with this? fast cornering at low speed turns I think this is what puts so much stength on the front suspension.

Reported it to Mercedes yesterday. See what happens. the lower spot welds did not even penetrate the 2nd layer of steel. You can see it on 3 spot welds. Looks like a poor spot weld job to me. The car is all stock with the addition of 18" Factory installed Wheels and upgraded to CLK bushings a year ago. I had this shimmy in the front end @ 60mph since I got the car with 78k. Now the car has 112k. The spot welds are hidden under caulking. I changed everything a year ago in the front end (all bushings, upper control arm, Ball joints and shocks). I looked under a CLK it uses the same mounting. So I think its just a poor spot welding job. I assume done by robots.

HA! Too funny... Happened on my 36 too about a year ago. Hit any potholes lately?

Find yourself a good welder. Not a bodyshop person, but someone with sheetmetal fab experience. I have not had this problem, but whenever I am under the car, it looks like the mounts are "bent". I think there should be bracing in this area.

If anyone else has had this happen file a complaint at the nhtsa.gov asap.
then we can have MB go over it. On mine you can see the welds did not penetrate. damn robots were probably drunk that day......

Ive seen this happen on other W202s before. Are your lower control arm bushings bad by any chance?
