Steam coming from exhaust and smell question
conditions. it has been pretty humid these past few days in new york. I drove my car in the rain on monday. felt stressed out from work so i took her out for a drive yesterday after work. was sitting there warming the car up and after about a min or two i noticed a bit of whiteness behind me as i was looking at my window switch with the door open. STEAM out of the pipes! it wasnt blinding but sure enough to notice. i smelled it..no weird smell. nothing. just hot vapor. do you think this is more than likely just condensation build up inside the pipes from the pipe cooling down from the other day? or condensation in the cat? the steam was continuous. i saw some water pooling up in the tailpipe off the muffler. im thinking it is NOT a head gasket problem but wanted your thoughts...possibly a small head gasket problem which is going to turn big?
as with the smell there was none. when the steam went away still no smell. oh and that reminds me....ever notice that the AMG c43 has no fumey smell? why is that? my altima and honda have this smell but the c43 exhaust smells actually really clean!

Stop worrying. That vapour is normal. Have you an idea how much condensation lives in the exhaust until all has been evaporated? Just drive and enjoy the vehicle ![drive](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/driving.gif)
Go for long runs to get ALL the mechanical parts lubricated, nice and hot. Short in city driving is a killer to all cars, be they AMG or other![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
My 2 MB's 98' & 99' which I rarely use in town, still have the original exhaust (except the 43 which has some custom parts)
