Who knew...

Was heading south on I-5 going down to the old folks house to work on the boat and hang out the folks for the weekend. Traffic was really light so was cruising along 80-85 ish.. I noticed some blue HID lights closing from behind. I kept my speed and lane waiting to see what it was. They signaled a lane change to pass me and to total disbelief it was a a newer Prius.. a dark red feaking prius! Since we were in between clumps of cars and road was clear of traffic i matched his speed and pulled up along side. Down right the funniest thing you have ever seen. This guy had that little Prius at just a tad over 100mph... just bombin down the road. Both hands on the wheel looking dead serious.

Can't believe you've never seen this before! That's what they all do. Either 10mph under the limit to "save fuel", or 20+mph over the limit because they can go faster than you and still save more fuel than you

Ha, maybe it's an north west thing but we have the first variety. They are almost always in the left lane holding up traffic or in the middle lane pacing semi-trucks. Had no idea they could even go 100 mph. I drove a first gen one years back just to try it out. Between the road noise and weird steering feel, didn't like going 50 mph let alone 100. Plus it had this reverse alarm and went off inside the car anytime you were backing up. Maybe they have come a long ways since then.

I was in San Franciso last year doing 85 MPH in the slow lane getting my doors blown off by Prius' left and right doing 100+ MPH. At the time I was as blown away as you were today.

Well most of I5 in oregon is 65 unless your going through main cities.. then it's 55 but at after 1am it's as fast as the ticket you can afford.. Certain stretches you won't catch or pass a car for miles.

Just hop on any of the surrounding 95 roads and you'll see differently (495, 595 or i95)
