Front License Plate Law

Hi, I live in CA and I don't have a front license plate because I think my car looks better without it. However I don't want to get a ticket.

Would I have to put on the front plate or could I put on a metal mercedes plate and get away with that?

A metal plate like this-

Dude the holes in your bumper are already drilled, just put on the plate. You're saving nothing by not putting on the plate. No matter what you're going to have something on the front of your bumper

Right, but you don't have a sig pic that clearly shows the plate mount already in your car. If you're going to have any plate on the front, and holes in your bumper, you might as well have a legal plate instead of a chrome amg one, IMO.

California requires a front plate

It is a fix it ticket if you are cited. You don't need to be pulled over for something else for a front plate ticket to be issued. I have been ticketed just for the lack of a front plate.

Front plates are mandatory in my part of the world and probably also in all the European countries. This is probably to catch you on speed cameras using photographic proof as most speed cameras take you from the front. In Swizzyland we have small rectangular plates on the front which are better looking than the wider rectangular plates on the back. The squarish plates on the back, similar to what you have in N. America have been practically phased out now. European car manufactures design the rear for the wider rectangular plates.

Also here you can have two vehicles with the same plate #. That saves insurance and road taxes as you only pay for the bigger capacity engine vehicle and only 25% of the normal road tax for the second. Of course you can't drive both cars at the same time using one plate on one and the other plate on the second...

Check the link to the photos of the front and back plates: 108
