c36 amg 97 differential/ need new, from witch car?

hello

first, im not so good in english but hope u guys understand.

i changed my differential oil for some few month ago, because it started to ''singing'' when i was driving.the oil did not look good that all! now it started to make some strange songs when i dropping the gas and let the engine ''brake''. and some time the song comming when i driving normal in for exempel 50 mph. im 90 % sure that the song comming from the differential. because yesterday i drained the diff oil again, and the oil look wery bad! MUCH small steel particels comming out with the oil and the oil was grey/black with some gold coolor!

now i think i need to change the differential soon, wich car can i take the differential from? i have one w202 220 DIESEL but i guess this dont have same differential?

my c36 have a 5 speed transmision. and differential is a ''open'' with no loocker.

and how is the jobb to change the differential ? much jobb? what need to dismounting to get is out?

thanks for any help!

I don't know if the diff was different for the 4 speed models, I assume not, but I have a 95' C36 diff for sale if you want it. Where are you located?

And to replace the diff, the rear end must be dropped. So the 4 subframe bolts come out, brake lines off, and wires, and disconnecting the rear flex disk. Not sure if any of the suspension arms are attached to the body. But it's a relatively involved job. Need a lift, or a pretty damn high jack

when replacing the rear diff the subframe does not need to be removed. the axles need to be unbolted it should be a 12 0r 14 mm triple star socket. then the driveshaft needs to be unbolted from it. then there are 2 bolts that go through the subframe and bolt to the back cover of the diff. and 1 more mounting bolt in the front of the diff i believe its a 6mm allen. the diff will come out after that

Yes, 3.07 is the ratio,,

many models that has the same 3.07 you have,

(W202 C200 CDI, W210 E200 CDI, E200K, E280, E320, E280 4-Matic, E320 4-Matic)

also you can fit the one from "W124 or W201", just may need to replace the side flanges & front housing,

our friend Money-one replaced his diff. with LSD from "W201 v16",,

https://mbworld.org/forums/c36-amg-c...43-almost.html

there are many choices you can go through, it depend to you, if you want to replaced the internals or replace the assembly diff...

Sure, if you choose any of the list above, it will 100% bolt-on,

but if you want to replace the internals, you can go with any gear & pinion that has 185mm with 3.07.....
