Factory Xenon Info

Hey everyone,

What does the genuine W202 Xenon setup consist of? Obviously the Xenon headlamps and ballasts but, is there anything else as far as parts, wiring, etc.? Does anyone have pics of a complete setup?

Also, can aftermarket HID's be used in the Xenon housing if you gut the housing?

I am installing the factory setup in my C43 that was not optioned with Xenons. I know that they won't have the auto levelling feature but, that does not deter me. I have all the parts minus the left side ballast as I am still trying to locate a good, used one. There are many right side ballasts available but, only brand new left sides and I'm not going to drop that kind of cash on one ballast. What are the differences between the left & right side ballasts? Is it just the mounting bracket or is it the wire connection as well? Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I believe the right and left ballasts are inyerchangeable in regards to function. Since you have both housings check the wiring of the pin connectors just to be sure.

There are also some special parts inside the Xenon headlight. I tried to replace the Ballast with an after market one and it did not work when I just replaced Ballast cutting and reconnecting the wires. Even if I measured 12Vdc, the external HID kit did not work. So I took the voltage before the headlight from main connector and used eternal wiring to the bulb to get it working.

It's been a while since I did the retrofit. I do remember the ballst was external and the ignitor was in the housing. I'll see if I can dig up some more info for you.

Thank you for the info. The genuine Xenon housings are complete with ignitors. In the parts diagram I only see the ballasts and harness as the only external parts. Unless I am missing anything!

The pin connectors look identical from what I can see. The only difference between the ballasts seem to be the side that the wiring comes out of ballast. Anyone have any input? Thx
